WTF is going on?
Surely Kiff didn’t think it was going to be this difficult to get a top 35-50 class!?!?!
I certainly thought Kiff would have you all in the top 40 by this time.

Kiffin has publicly stated that he doesn’t want to take commitments from recruits he can’t meet in person due to COVID. Also, it’s July and we have 7 more months of recruiting. There are a lot of pieces left on the board and a lot of time left

Their average player ranking puts them more like 8th in the SEC so that isn’t bad. Could just be holding out for better prospects. May be risky though if they don’t land any of them before NSD.

Not gonna lie, I’m shocked Kiffin isn’t sitting top 25-30 class.
Did not expect a whirlwind on the trail but this is pretty meh

Seems like a pretty weak year in Mississippi - 1 Top 100 player (committed to LSU), 3 Top 250 players, only 5 players that are 4-stars.
Add to that a new staff that had very little time to get to know high school staffs before COVID hit, and it's a tough job.

Drinkwitz is doing a great job and many say it was an ok hired and gave Kiffin a great hired! So we will see how each HC do when the season starts.

Also many of the recruits are picking schools early and if Kiffin doesn't picked up any time soon. Also what if this becomes the norm? COVID-19 isn't going away any time soon. It might take years before a vaccine/cure is available.

A vaccine will not take years to be available. Worst case scenario it is ready by May of next year. Best case scenario it's made my October.

Hard to say exactly what his plan is. As the other poster stated, he has publicly said he wasn’t just going to take commits based off film alone without getting a chance to meet them in person. Other than that, anybody who says they know what he’s doing is lying. It’s a concern among some people.

This^^^^^
Ole Miss is getting consideration from several 4 stars in places we’ve never really recruited before. Lots of Florida and East Coast kids probably due to existing connections our staff already had.
We could add 5 or so 4 stars and fill the rest of the class out with solid 3 stars and finish in the top 25 - 30 range.
But it is definitely concerning as Kiffin was expected to be an above average recruiter.

Not really though. There are plenty of very talented Mississippi players that haven’t been properly evaluated because of the lack of camps this year. Mississippi is usually very under evaluated by recruiting services because of the lack of coverage. There are multiple 3 stars that are probably more 4* caliber.

I thought the big knock on Kiffin was that he wasn’t an active recruiter and had to surround himself with those folks to make this work. I think people make the assumption that he’s going to be an elite recruiter because all the fanfare that follows him.

This year is a wash for almost any staff. If things are back to normal this time next year, then tell me how he is recruiting then and I’ll make a judgment. I do not feel that you can properly judge anything this year.

May not sign a single player then

Wait - Mizzou fans are actually happy w/ his class? 1 4* and a bunch of 3*s?

It's tough to recruit to ole miss.

Mizzou is not done recruiting and is expecting more 4* recruits. So far better than what Odom did at Mizzou. His class rankings were in 30s and 40s. Mizzou should be in the 20s when the final team rankings are posted.

Matt Luke used to take quantity to boost our rank. We had a top heavy class every year with a handful of studs and then a bunch of dudes with no business being on an SEC roster. I think Kiffin would rather sign guys he knows will work rather than fill up with commitments that are space fillers.
Also having a new staff trying to build a roster with rona is probably tough. Not an excuse but still an issue.
I think he will be fine and our first class with him will be serviceable. No home runs or anything wild but it will be fine.
