CNN - Greg Sankey with Wolf Blitzer

quote:

Greg Sankey, the commissioner of the Southeastern Conference (SEC), said that while he is expecting sports to resume in the fall, the data and the virus will guide what the season will look like.

"We're on a journey and my focus is preparing to play the season as scheduled, but the reality is the circumstances around the virus will guide us in that decision-making," he told CNN on Tuesday.

quote:

Sankey said while he is expecting college football to play as scheduled, he does not expect stadiums to allow fans at full capacity.

"We're seeing opportunities for fans to be at events...we were talking about Talladega, had a very small number, I don't expect the numbers would remain necessary that small, but we are going to pay attention to our state, local and campus health officials to make the determination about fans."

quote:

He also said there will likely be other safety measures, like masks.

"I would think the game itself would look much like we're accustomed to, but you're going to have fewer people around the sidelines. The presence of masks, I would expect to be someplace around our competitions. That doesn't mean in but if we've got people measuring first downs, you're going to see that type of reality we're seeing in our lives every day," he added.

There will be no fans in the stands

And no players on the field.

I hate it as much as the next guy but, its reality.

Turn off the fear porn. Football is going to happen more likely than not.

You think the NCAA and it’s member institutions wants their entire athletic programs gutted? There is extreme motivation to play.

Unless COVID morphs into something that actually harms young people they’ll find a way to play.

He couldn't have spent his time on a channel that people actually watch?

It is nothing more than fear mongering at this point.

Im not fear anything. Just using good judgement. Right now they are allowed to have a very few players together to do basic stuff. No "football" stuff. Players are being tested and more and more of them are testing positive. I find it hard to believe we are gong to get from where we are right now to full contact, players sweating, spitting and banging into each other in 8 weeks.

Not fear mongering. Just watching what is going on with College and High School football here in the state of Georgia.

I hope I am wrong but I dont see it happening.

I don’t disagree. Out state medical guy put it pretty well today.

quote:

Just hours before, the highest number of coronavirus cases in a single day were announced. Over 600 cases confirmed, with 11 new deaths.

quote:

Mississippi hospitals are also reporting the highest number of COVID-19 hospitalizations since April.

quote:

In some of these areas they were even successful in the counties where they’ve had real bad problems. They were able to embrace more strict social distancing and the masks. They’ve had improved transmission. It’s worked. But if you don’t have a critical massive buy-in of local leaders and of the community it’s going to be doomed to fail.” Dobbs continued by saying wearing a mask is not about personal rights but about being selfless and caring for your family and the community at large. When asked if we could expect wearing masks into the September or October he said that yes we should be. Dr. Dobbs said he is extremely worried for the fall. He believes that it will be much worse than the current situation. They are currently preparing in case the hospitals are overwhelmed.

I’m with you. It seems completely obvious.

Some people are so emotionally invested in football it blinds them.

Why haven’t hospitals and medical facilities ramped up and stocked up on supplies by now? There’s no shortage of vents any longer is there? And haven’t the hospital already planned for over runs and prepared accordingly?

It actually harms all age groups! Even if you aren’t showing symptoms, it damages your lungs and cause other problems down the road!!

In MS, it’s not the lack of vents but the lack of personnel.

This is all they should be working for.
Unfortunately, it seems like everyone is going for full season including OOC games or bust, which mean absolutely no CFB for anyone.

So fan attendance at Ole Miss won’t be affected.
