Where does this shite end?! As a History PhD I don’t even know what to do at this point....

So anyone who ever owned a slave, in a time period where it was a social norm, statue is coming down? Regardless of anything else?

The people that are randomly ripping down statues are just doing it because they love anarchy. They would find a reason to break shite. It’s amazing. I’ve never heard anyone defend slavery. Not one person, but people understand that we can’t just erase history. It happened.

Auschwitz didn’t get torn down. It’s a memorial for people to visit and educate themselves.

After the statues and memorial buildings are all destroyed, will there then be protests (& riots) over the faces pictured on U.S. currency and renaming Washington D.C., state of Washington and city of Lincoln, Nebraska? Mobs of idiots are going to end up causing more of what they're supposedly protesting -- racism. Since they hate this country so much, maybe they should relocate to Costa Rica. I've heard that life is so much better there -- Eutopia!

It’s impossible to judge men of the 19th century by 21st century progressive standards. No one is going to measure up and to throw out and trash their legacies is intellectual dishonesty.

But.......This isn’t about a balanced analysis this is cultural revolution and a setting of the clock to Year 0.

It goes beyond that, dude. They get a pass on some statues and now it’s open season on all statues...of any historical figure. They defaced two statues of abolitionists, John Greenleaf Whittier and Matthias Baldwin...

Baldwin was a Quaker...here’s what the Philadelphia Inquirer wrote about him:

Baldwin, who created one of the largest a locomotive manufacturing firms of his time, was an outspoken critic against slavery during the early 1800s, arguing for the right of African Americans to vote and founding a school in the city for black children.

Also heard that protesters in England went after a statue of Winston Churchill...if it weren’t for him those protesters might be speaking German...

Whose statue is next? Mother Teresa?

Personal opinion, but I believe what we're seeing is a Marxist-ish political movement attempting to recast America and American culture as one of the greatest evils in the world in an effort to blow up the system and start from scratch. They have moved the ball forward in recent weeks because they've been able to operate under the facade of "anti-racism" by utilizing and directing the pent-up frustration of African-Americans who have not seen any material change in their social condition in generations.

Everything in the last few weeks makes sense when you consider the driving sentiment behind these actions is "American history and culture = bad" and not simply "Confederate and objectively racist symbols = bad". You might notice the crowds pulling down the Jefferson and Washington statues are much less diverse than the ones pulling down the statues of CSA generals.

Just wait until we get to the part where the Bill of Rights gets canceled because it's an instrument of white supremacy, authored by slaveholders.

I asked someone yesterday the same thing. I guess all Catholic churches and Jewish synagogues are next. The colonization of the Americas, slave trade, and support of the founding fathers to commit treason and allow slavery to flourish in this country was mainly supported financially by the Catholic church and Jewish bankers in the Denmark and surrounding areas.

All of you morons who thought this was about Confederate monuments: this is your fault.
