Bruce talking about his team. This is such a refreshingly self-aware take on a team from a head coach. You'd never get this level of candor from Gus about his teams strengths and weaknesses. That kind of transparency is disarming to opponents and attractive to recruits and media who carry out your message.

quote:

“Look, our shooting percentage isn’t very good, from three or from [two]. We’re not very offensively efficient. We’ve got to do a better job with the assist-turnover. We’ve got to play better offensively. We’ve kind of struggled on the road. I don’t think we pass the eye test, but we compete. The kids have bought in. They want to win every game, and they’re training. Those are sort of the intangibles that don’t come across very easily. I think we’ve got some upside.”

I think he speaks to the media about his team with the same intent that Saban has. He wants the message getting across to them, and the best way to do that is through the media which is something the players immerse themselves into everyday.

As far as Gus and Bruce, let’s not have that comparison. Not even close fam.

is one guy gets blown out in Tuscaloosa and Gainesville and it’s on to the next one... the other guy gets crucified.

One guy gets his team in the playoffs. One guy has taken his program to another level, not down a rung on the ladder from where they already were.

Name one losing streak to a SEC foe that Bruce hasn’t killed.

CAn't compare the two. Geez.

If the football guy loses in Tuscaloosa and Gainsville, the season is over as far as playing for the SECC and getting into the Football playoffs.
If the basketball guy loses in Tuscaloosa and Gainsville, he still has a chance at the conference title and a high seed in the NCAA tournament.

His record climb the last 5 years is just amazing to see in black and white...

11-20
18-14
26-8
30-10
21-2...

That's how you do it.

Very impressive considering we are AU and his talent level hasn't been great.

Then there are those who complain about the complainers...

And I didn't start the thread...but where there is a thread...there will be responses(good and bad).

There are a handful of Pearl-like football coaches. Maybe one day we can go get one...

Until then, we will ride the Gus Bus to our normal, disappointing destination.

I think we were just a perfect match with lucky timing.

A team so hungry to be relevant in basketball and a coach hungry to atone for past sins and resurrect his career w/ a great resume as a coach.

I was comparing the difference in approach in terms of communication about the team. The candor and transparency of Bruce as compared to the coach-speak and equivocation of Gus. I wasn't comparing the performances.

I've been very complimentary of Gus in areas where he does well. But that doesnt fit your narrative so you just knee-jerk responded.

Well, OP is comparing media approaches and motivation tactics, which is easily compared.

Comparing two loses in a 12 game football season (which we always lose a lot more than) and two loses in basketball which has > 30 games is stupid
