What is your level of confidence in this one?
It comes down to Monken being able to exploit a talented but flawed Alabama defense. I think he can outcoach the Bama DC Golding. Hopefully, Newman and the WRs are clicking by week 3. I don't think we can win without a strong passing attack. The Bama Defense struggled to stop the run at times last season, so, I think with more of a threat at the passing game, it can open up running lanes.
I'm not sold on Mac Jones just yet. Najee Harris is a beast and could create some problems, but no one could run on us last year, and I think it will be the same this year. We're probably going to have our deepest and most talented secondary ever, and we're going to need it against Waddle and Smith. I think we can slow them down a bit.
Ultimately, If Newman is as good as we hope, then I believe we win. If not, it's probably a loss. There's a good chance we play them twice in 2020 so I could see us splitting. At this point Bama is probably in our heads similar to how Spurrier and Florida was in ours in the 90s and early 2000s. Kirby needs to get this monkey off his back. He's built a roster as deep and as talented as Alabama, but he needs to beat them. It's our time.

We’re beating them in their house in route to a NC

Low. Until we prove we can beat Saban, I'm not going to be confident vs Bama.

Ask me in August. Way too many variables to consider this far out. Need to get everyone to campus and see who picks up on the new system

This. The offensive overhaul makes us pretty impossible to project.
We could be Joe Burrow LSU or Jeremy Johnson Auburn and literally anything in between.

Realistically, low.

I'll get back to you on August 1st...a lot can happen between now and to that point

Couldn’t have said it any better. I’ll expect an L vs Alabama until shown otherwise

I think we need to tighten up our pass defense during the offseason. We only faced four top 50 passing teams last year, LSU (#2), UF (#16) and Baylor (#43), ND (#49). The rest were much worse due to QB problems, which made our pass defense stats look pretty good. But, considering the rest of the opposition, we gave up too many easy slants and downfield completions IMO.
Kirby has made moves to improve our passing offense. Now I'd like to see him adjust his defense to account for the same trend in other teams' offenses. More emphasis on pass defense and a little less emphasis on run defense. More edge rushing and blitzing, tighter coverage. We should have the personnel to do that and it will be necessary to beat good passing teams we'd face in the playoffs. Hopefully Monken's offense will give us a good challenge for that in practice.

So if we win this game we will either have to beat them twice or auburn twice? (Sorry I just don’t see LSU winning the west with everything they lost)
But am I right about that?

I agree. Our secondary had sequences where it looked very suspect like in the end of the ND, Auburn, and Florida games. Another area is getting more sacks and tfl. I hope we're more aggressive like in the Baylor game.

Well, if we win we're probably going to go the SEC championship. We'll have to beat Florida, but Kirby has no problem with Dopey Dan.
My guess it will be Alabama out of the west. My surprise pick is A&M. They're brining a lot back and their schedule sets up pretty well for them.

Also at times in the TAMU and even UT games. Maybe part of the problem was that our offense did not give us a good look in practice to prepare against.

We will have a great tune up against UVA to get our guys head right and we hopefully don't have to show anything before Bama.

Can our tackles pass block?
Can our pass rush get home?
Can we win the turnover battle?
Answer yes to all 3 and I think we win.
It is tough to do in a night environment in tuscaloosa.

That's because they were exhausted from being on the field too long in the 2nd half since the O couldn't sustain drives.

It will come down to our offense. If Monken can work some magic with Newman and get our offense clicking on some explosive plays, we've got a pretty good chance at winning. Our defense is going to be as good as it has ever been - the question is whether or not we can score the 28-35 points we will need to beat Bama.

We're still gonna have to run the ball effectivly. Sabans defense at this point is built to stop the spread hunh shite, but less prepared for power. I know we all want to see high flying circus offense but we need a plan B for when that shite isn't working. Multiple shite yo.

Pretty good. Mac Jones is no Tua and we have a great defense. 50/50 which is about the best you can ask on for in Tuscaloosa.

No team can stop a well run spread offense if QB and receivers are executing. Previous years we played right into their hands trying run up the gut 40 times. Oh we will run, but it will be read options, scrambles designed QB runs, tosses etc out of the shotgun. No power I and pro set. It is quite simple you don't beat Alabama if your QB doesn't ball out. Fromm's lack of mobility was a killer.
