What's the difference between Catch % and Success Rate?

Catch % is just literally catches divided by targets

Success Rate is what % of your plays = successful.

"Successful" is
- 50% of necessary yardage on 1st down (ie 5 or more yards on 1st and 10)
- 70% of necessary yardage on 2nd down (ie 6 or more yards on 2nd and 9)
- 100% of necesary yardage on 3rd/4th down (if you get the first down/TD = success, if you dont it does not = success)

I hope AJ Green leaves as a free agent this year. It'd be nice to see him play with a good QB before his NFL career is over.

Thanks for the explanation

So since Terrace Marshall has the same number for catch % and success rate (69.7%), does that mean that all of his catches were 'successful'?

Just from what I know of how the stats and %'s are created, yea that says to me that on 100% of his catches he did what equates to a "successful" catch.........which is pretty amazing

He also had the highest 1st Down + Touchdown % in the SEC (% of catches that get either a TD or a 1st Down) at 57.6% (LSU had the top 3 of those, FYI, which is absurd : Jefferson was 53.7%, Chase was 53.6%).

So yea, that makes sense - 58% of his catches = a TD or a 1st down, and the other 11% or so clearly got successful yardage amounts that didn't end in 1st D or TD.

More stat white noise. Auburn’s best receiver and top 5 in the SEC is Seth Williams. How many times does he appear on the list?

LOL no he isn't. More your brain white noise right there.

He was Top 7 in returning SEC players in Drops (6.60%) and would definitely be Top 7 in returning SEC players in temper tantrums thrown on the field at his QB and/or coach.

- 2nd to last in Catch Rate (57 catches on 106 targets)
- 3rd from last in Drop Rate (7 drops on 106 targets)
- 4th from last in Yards after Catch (4.35)

Bama and LSU stacked
They both have damn good development at the WR position.

Seth Williams and Anthony Schwartz would show out at a place like LSU or Bama.

Burns needs to be replaced because he isn't getting the true talent to show in the field. Somewhat in Burns' defense, Gus uses his WR for blocking more than catching but your staff doesn't do your WR talent justice. And y'all have had issues with retention at the position which doesn't help either.

In Seth Williams statistical defense, 16% of his targets were deemed uncatchable.

Yeah maybe he should go to Detroit and win super bowls with Stafford and Megatron

What I gather from those statistics is that one of Bama’s backups of 2 years is considerably better than LSU’s award winning #1 WR.
