Beer and wine could be on the menu at Sanford Stadium for Georgia football games this fall. Georgia athletic director Greg McGarity said it would be a big topic of discussion at Georgia’s spring athletic board meetings.
When it comes to implementing the sale of alcohol to the public at athletic events, McGarity’s main concern is being able to do it as well as possible. While he doesn’t want Georgia to be left in the dust when it comes to the trend of selling alcohol at its sporting events, McGarity doesn’t want to cause problems by rushing the process. He recently spoke to the Athens Banner-Herald about this idea.
“If we weren’t interested in perhaps moving forward, we wouldn’t even be going through this exercise,” McGarity said. “Things are trending that way. We certainly don’t want to be behind others but at the same time, we’ve heard of problems that our fans experienced in Nashville and Knoxville. What we don’t want to do is just jump in without a lot of thought and with a good plan that doesn’t affect our current concessions.”

It needs to be part of an entire overhaul of the concession system at Sanford. It has been garbage for decades.

Neat so I can pay $9 for a shitty beer like Bud Light next season? Rather just sneak in the good shite

It should be, they'd make a killing from all the students who'd buy a beer with their fake IDs.

Would it be terrible if they only served local brews? Terrapin, Creature Comforts, Akademia, etc?

That would be dumb from a mass appeal perspective. Most fans don’t want to pay $12 for an IPA at a September football game.

There are not nearly enough bathrooms there to accommodate the amount of pissing and subsequent vomiting that would occur.

Creature Comforts cost 6$ last year.
All beer was 6$,wine 5$
Only drawback was no cash sales ,credit card only

I don't think puking and bathroom usage will be worse that it already is. If you're able to get more than 2 beers you would have likely missed 99% of the game. Our concession stands are slow as shite.
IPA is not the only beer the local breweries make. Another hyperbolic statement to avoid a real conversation. A Koko Buni would be nice on a cold day. As stated above (not sure if true) the crafts were only $6.
I try not to push my opinion on others. Why do some feel the need to stop other people from doing things that are completely legal?

Since we are griping about concessions, and rightfully so. Not only are they slow, but in one game my wife asked me to get her a hamburger. A fairly normal ask, right? I walked three levels and around half the stadium to even find a concession serving burgers. Some had sausage, some had bbq, some had hotdogs, some were just popcorn. It was a scavenger hunt and took forever.

Georgia should push to make LSU their permanent West rival ( I know never will happen with Auburn)
But if you did, every other year UGA would hit their revenue target in one game with our drunken fan base.

You're a better man than me. I would have just said, sorry honey, they only had hot dogs.

Is this a problem? I've always thought that only dealing with debit and credit cards helped streamline the lines and made it faster for all involved. MBS went cashless a couple years back and they even offer kiosks that accept cash and will spit out a prepaid card that you can use at the concession stands.
I never carry cash so card is obviously my preference.

LOL if it was streamlined I would agree. Unfortunately every purchase requires a signature , if you buy one glass of wine you have to s ign, you buy one tropicalia you have to sign. One line one bartender, it was a slow go.
I guess it's a generational thing but I would never leave the house without cash.

Definitely agree about signatures slowing everything down.
If I recall MBS was able to do it without any signature required, so maybe Georgia would be able to copy that system. But knowing how our concessions have been run tells me that they'll select the most complex methods

Don't know about puking but bathroom waits/lines will be worse. Its silly to think otherwise.

Don't care what others do but it's a matter of logistics and convenience and Sanford is horrible at both.

I only sit in the 200 level anymore. It's worth the premium.
Empty concourse, no line concessions and no line bathroom.
