Why did we burn Taulia‘s redshirt?

Seems like a wasted year.

Doesnt seem like he got five games of action. Or was it four.

He was the backup QB. He needed reps just in case Mac got hurt. I have no issue with it

Usually I wouldn't have a problem with it, but that 5th game he came in and handed off a couple of times. Maybe threw one pass
Burning it is ok, but let him run the offense. In this case, it was pretty much burned for no reason.

They're gonna make Tualia a thing, aren't they?

His last name is Tagovailoa so therefore he is going to be elite.

It was rather dumb because he burned it for nothing. If he needed reps, fine, let him come in and run the offense and get some game experience. Instead, he had a few meaningless handoffs against Western Carolina to burn the shirt. It benefitted no one.

To me now it’s starting to seem like if you don’t play them you’re just redshirting them for their transfer destination.

IF you would do your homework and realized that Tauila was gonna be redshirted until Tua got hurt.. and Saban had no choice but to burn his redshirt year.

What?
What homework?
I understand he was gonna be redshirted. Why did Saban have no choice? He didn’t need to play in the last game that cost him his redshirt

I might be in the minority, but I hate redshirting healthy players anyway. Qb’s, Rb’s and Wr. I’m all for playing them and saving the redshirt for a possible injury. Unless they aren’t physically ready to play.

Because you would realize Tauila had some game experience and he was the next man up after Mac Jones.... That was common sense. Who was he gonna put in had Mac got hurt? C'mon man... use your common sense.

Yep. Paul Bryant Jr. is gonna make a hell of a college football coach one day.

Nick said a month ago that he did it so that smart guys like you would have something to second guess the greatest of all time about during the off-season.
What can he say but, “Your welcome”?
What can he say but, “Your welcome”?

You're welcome is something else he could've said

No shite. Still makes no sense to play him in a fifth game that he clearly wasn’t needed in.
Did those hand offs prepare him in anyway to play if Mac got hurt? No
Would he play if Mac got hurt? Yes.
4-5 hand offs did nothing.
And I don’t really care if he redshirted or not, but the usual logic is if they make it until the end of the year with their redshirt, you let them keep it.

I agree cajun. Burning a redshirt for two minutes worth of handoffs was really dumb.

I don't think it really matters. If Young is half as good as everybody thinks he is, this will be a moot point next year. Taulia will focus on graduating early and the family will move close to where Tua goes in the pro's. Taulia will go to a school in that state or general vicinity and everybody wins.
