College basketball is losing me

I already hated the NBA. College basketball has been tanking for year imo. The refs are horrible. It's not just Mizzou. Nearly every team, it's either jack up a 3 or a dunk. There is no basketball played anymore.
I'll throw out a crazy idea that will never fly. Eliminate the 3 pointer. Now that mid range game counts just as much as jacking it up from 50 feet away. Maybe coaches will get back to actually coaching again.
While I'm at it, let's make a dunk a technical foul. You wanna score? You gotta actually play basketball and make a damn shot.
I know. Will never happen. Hell the all star game isn't even watched as much as the slam dunk and 3 point contest. That's what people want to see but it leads to some shitty basketball.

You're old school and against the modern style of basketball driven by analytics.
Nothing wrong with that.
Basketball is fine though. As is baseball.

Agree Reedus...I haven't watched an NBA game in 30+ yrs. All pro sports except hockey sucks arse bc of the players....they're all about "me"....."hey look over here at me I got something say.....I really do.....hi". Just really bad products.

Funny, I think CBB is as good now as it’s ever been.

It’s more entertaining when NBA players are hitting 3s in their sleep. Watching our guys hit 9-35 isn’t “analytics driven” basketball.
As of mid-December, Kentucky was hitting 27% of their 3 pointers and Virginia 25%. Florida A&M was hitting 25% of their 3 pointers for the worst % in D1. The worst team last year shot 27%.

I figured it would be down from last year since the line is 2 feet back
See the high% shots in nba is what I don’t like. It’s more fun in college because you have no clue if it’ll go in, that’s exciting

Eh. It’s just shitty most of the time. I haven’t watched 5 non-Mizzou games this year.
Seeing FB highlights and snips from ESPN probably is part of that.
But it’s a marked departure from my CBB viewing habits even a few years ago.

Due to the line being pushed back. You have kids practice a certain distance their entire life and then move it. Not opposed to it, but think that has a lot to do with it.

I'm also not a big fan of change in sports rules. Like taking away the 5 second call...Basically saying defense doesn't matter. No reward for playing good on ball defense. Also causes the ball to stick. Baseball rule changes are driving me crazy too. The thought of making fielders stay in certain zones to stop the shifts is just gross. Here's an idea, learn to hit the ball to all fields.

I used to watch college basketball 4-5 days a week. I think I've watched 2 games all year. I even make cbb bets but still don't even care to watch the games.
A different style of basketball from the 80s and early 90s game that I loved.

I was listening to Andy Van Slyke the other day and he told a story of 40 year old Pete Rose taking extra BP trying to hit line drives off the 3rd base bag while hitting left and the 1st base bag while hitting right.
Why? To make fielders defend the whole field.
Matt Carpenter should wake the eff up and save his career.

I read a story one time trying to claim Tony Gwynn relied on luck essentially because he didn’t hit the ball hard. There’s something to be said to be able to hit to all fields.
The analytics side is interesting and I get the importance. But for baseball its essentially eliminated base path to base path (more fun to watch imo than watching the cards fan 8 million times against the nats) and it’s eliminated the midrange game in basketball which has made players lose isolation moves that involve pulling up, pump fakes etc (once again more fun to watch imo).
With the emphasis that cuonzo puts on defense you’d think our players should be shooting more mid range jump shots because when it’s a race to 60 I don’t feel like hitting threes becomes important, making possessions end in any amount of points becomes important (mid range jumpers, getting to the line etc)

Totally agree with you on the 3 point BS. I've been thinking this for a few years now...the 3 point shot has ruined any sort of intrigue on the offensive end. It's basically just a shootaround with some defenders in front of you.
Disagree on the dunks though. I have no problem at all with those (not sure why you would??). It's no different than a layup.
But I would be 100000% on board with eliminating the 3 point shot.

Marp better wake up this year. Guy could hit 500 if he knew or cared to bunt. Take what the defense gives you.

This is it. I used to watch a TON of college basketball, used to go to Arch Madness every year and would get tickets to NCAA tourney games if remotely close. I would have seen almost every team in the NCAA brackets because I watched all the conference championships also. Now, I go watch a few high school games.
I've gone to a few Webster University, Fontbonne, Wash U level games the past few years. Free to get in, decent quality and you get close to the action.

Yes, I probably am. But change the analytics is what I'm saying. They all jack up 3's because in the bigger picture it makes no sense to have a mid-range game. Just step back to steps and get the extra point. Eliminate the 3 and all of a sudden the analytics change.

For now. What do you think of stealing 1st base?

Tony Gwynn could have hit a shite load more home runs if he didn't hit to all fields. Of course, he would have then been a very average player instead of the great he was.

I don't have as big of a problem with dunks. I just think eliminating it would force some bigs to actually develop inside skills. I won't lie. I also don't like the posing after an average dunk. It reminds me of Mizzou defensive backs posing after tackling a WR 40 yards down the field. Shut the hell up. What you did wasn't special. Oh...while I'm at it...where in the hell did the technical go for hanging on the rim?

I officially quit on Marp when he came to bat with the tying run on 3rd, there was either 0 or 1 out and they played the shift. He could have not only moved the runner to 3rd with less than 2 outs but would have been on base as well as the go ahead run. Instead, he does what he typically does and we don't score. HATE GUYS THAT CAN'T USE THE WHOLE FIELD!!!
