It looks like a new target has emerged for the stretch run to NSD within the SEC.
Mr. Rakestraw's son has been offered by the following teams over the last couple weeks:
Alabama
Georgia
Missouri
Arkansas
South Carolina
Miami
Baylor
Michigan State
It appears Ole Miss is likely to offer very soon as well.

Ennis Rakestraw has to be 1 of the top CBs in the nation. His performances vs Rockwall, St. John, SGP & Skyline show his value. Those 4 schools had wrs who are going to Ohio St., LSU, Kansas & Texas. He hasnt given up a TD all season.

Heck of a December for him:
Kansas, UConn, Michigan State, Baylor, Miami, South Carolina, Georgia and Arkansas all offered then. Alabama right after in January.

ESD has become a godsend for some of these unheralded goons

It's wild how this happens with 4-5 kids every year now. Nothing at all and then the gold rush.
There was a really good article on The Athletic about Brock Purdy at Iowa St. His class was the first class of the ESD, and they were really concerned that everyone would fill up and there would be no spots left after ESD. Instead, they waited, and he was the hottest commodity on the market for 2 weeks.

These late additions always seem to do well. Usually an injury or something similar prevents exposure

Barmore is a pretty good example of this. A kid starts off ranked semi-lowly then explodes.

I am agreeing with you on him being a top shelf DB. He flew under the radar according to reporters in the state.
Coaches are saying he is the best DB in Texas for sure by seeing him shut down the top receivers all year. I read somewhere this kid had less than 100 yards against him, and no TDs all season.
I've heard his offer from UGA isn't one he can commit to yet, because UGA is still deciding which positions it will fill with its last 1 or 2 spots. We did get a good class at DB and several players in our secondary are coming back.
Rakestraw will be a damn good player for whoever gets him though.

Georgia has 12 CBs on the roster (minus any transfers upcoming).
We have an additional 5 safeties (1 just entered the portal).
That said, we signed 7 DBs in the 2017 class. Stokes, Lecounte, and Mark Webb will get their shot at the NFL. We could lose Campbell early to the NFL.
Despite the crowded room, there is a upcoming need for talent/starters.

You make it sound like he already tried to commit to Georgia but can’t yet. Because Georgia getting everybody. GTFOH!!!!

I don’t understand how one flies under the radar at a program like Duncanville in this age. Not saying he didn’t because these coaches obviously knowing what they’re doing offering him it’s just crazy it still happens

Could have been an academic situation. Semester just ended

No he didn't. Crap, LSU fans are the worst at reading way too much into something and then taking it personally when it has absolutely nothing to do with them.
Teams offer scholarships all the time that are a "wait and see" variety...and it has nothing to do with whether a kid has tried to commit.

This isn't a shot at Georgia because I know pretty much everybody does it, but I would love to hear the pitch on one of these non-committable offers. How the hell do you tell a kid, "we're going to offer you, but you can't commit unless we miss on some other kids."
Just seems like the kid would see it as a slap in the face. Unless they're all bullshite and the school just doesn't argue with the kid claiming an offer, and they try their best to prevent him from committing?
Again, in no way a slight towards UGA, I'm sure my team does the same thing. Just curious how they sell that without pissing the kids off.

I haven't heard one like that, but I have had several programs come scout our kids and offer a scholarship but then say you can't commit or it's not official until you come on campus and the head coach sees you.

This. They are as often "conditional " and less often noncommittal. You can look at a program and see 50 offers outstanding. A lot of times, the offer is the invitation to build the relationship.

It's probably closer to:
"We would love for you to be a member of our class, but we aren't sure how many spots we have available right now. We have some kids we think are going to declare early and some we already know are. We have to fill the known places/positions first. We think we have a kid at your position is going to declare. When we hear something we would like for you to consider us."
That's just rattling off the top of my head. I'm sure they have a smoother and better way of doing it, but there are ways to make a kid feel needed and wanted and ask him to wait a bit.
Like you said, everybody does it, so it really isn't a huge deal.
I mean, a kid that grows up a big LSU fan will wait without giving it a second thought, for instance.
quote:No...I think you are right. it would take a lot of finesse, that's for sure.

Even building on that...I have heard that some schools will make 200+ offers in a year.
