Got this idea from a post on another board, so not taking full credit here, but what about a 16 team playoff this year replacing the CCG's and 4 team playoff. Have to say, this looks way more enticing than what we will get this weekend...

To take any personal bias out, simply the Top 16 teams in the CFP playoff poll as of today:

Rd 1 of playoffs:
(16) Iowa @ (1) Ohio State
(15) ND @ (2) LSU
(14) Michigan @ (3) Clemson
(13) Oregon @ (4) UGA
(12) Bama @ (5) Utah
(11) Auburn @ (6) OU
(10) Penn St @ (7) Baylor
(9) UF @ (8) Wisconsin

That's an awesome slate of games, can you imagine Florida playing at Madison Wisconsin in mid-December?

Now that would be fun!!!!! Bet a lot of those SEC teams would make it to the 2nd round.

So... just leave the G5 schools completely out of it?

Keep it at 4. There’s barely 4 deserving teams this year as it is.

But should as a Bama fan we will take that 12-5 matchup

You're just now realizing the possibility of a 16-team playoff? It took seeing someone type it out?

I agree. Just need to drop to ten regular season games so it’s not too much on 18-22 yr olds.

Yeah, Iowa totally deserves a shot at the national championship!

Don't ruin the regular season by adding to the playoffs...

Some very cool matchups. Id worry about our southern boys playing in the Northern elements lol. But that spart of the game. Home Field advantage just like going to Foxborough or Green Bay.

This is VERY easy!! All that has to happen is for the P5 conferences to get to 16 teams each.

Each conference has 4 pods of 4 teams with the top team making a conference tournament. those 16 teams make the playoff and the top 4 non-power 5 teams compete for a spot.

SEC - 4
B10 - 4
B12 - 4
PAC12 - 4
ACC - 4
NON P5 - 4

Each conference has a 2 game tournament to determine the conference winner and the survivors advance. Started with 24 teams with a chance and you end up with a 6 team tournament. The last 2 teams would only play 2 extra games they don't already play now. This ends all speculation, all human emotion. Win on the field, win your pod, a team that does not win its conference cannot win the national title. The smaller schools have a chance but they have to play a schedule that gets them into the top 4 of the nonpower 5 teams.

This would be an INSANELY amazing CFB weekend. December Madness. I'm still not a proponent of a 16 team playoff, but my arse would be glued to the couch for what I presume would be at least a 2 day event b/c they would try to milk it for all it's worth.

16 is way too many and totally devalues the regular season and conference titles. 6 is the most it should ever be, and I'm ok if it's at 4. I don't feel much sympathy for #5 being left out. #3, yes sometimes. #17 though? They probably don't even deserve a NY bowl.
