HUGE difference between hand timed 40 YDD and laser timed.

quote:

The results showed the hand-timed 40-yard dashes were significantly faster compared to electronic-timed (4.90 ± 0.34 s vs. 5.12 ± 0.35 s, respectively). A difference of 0.22 seconds! The novice coaches produced the fastest sprint times (4.86 ± 0.33 s). Interestingly, the reliability for hand-timed 40’s was quite high (Intraclass Correlation values >0.90). The smallest worthwhile difference for hand and electronic-timed 40-yard dashes was 0.14 and 0.12 seconds, respectively.

The NFL went to laser timed 40 in 1999. You can pretty much ignore all the times before that.

Leonard Scott

He was the fastest man to ever put on football uniform. He had world class speed. In his prime there were only 1 or 2 humans on Earth who were as fast as him.

Scott played for Tennessee in the late 90s.

His track times were world class time. Think Carl Lewis or Ben Johnson on juice fast.

He had a 9.91 100 meters. Bullet Bob Hayes had a 10.06 in the 100m.

40yd dashes are technical sprints. I'd like to know who is the fastest, with pads on, running say after 10 yds, for a 80yd td. The fastest 40yd guy could get caught and past by a guy who is not as good on the technical aspect of running a sprint but has overall greater speed.

Demps is up there. Kid was just jesus christ fast

Which is why Addazio ran him up the middle so often. Trick the opponents into thinking we would use that speed.

Trindon Holliday has a 10s 100M on file.

In 2007 vs Auburn, Ryan Perrilloux fumbled, Auburn playet scooped and tried to score but Trindon ran him down. Fastest I've seen someone on a football field.

Hate to say it but Auburn owns this record. They have had 3 of the top 10 fastest times ever recorded with Bo Jackson being 1 with a whopping 4.12, Ontario McCALEB AT 4.21 3. Dante Stalworth at 4.22 tied for 4 with McFadden and Trindon Holiday at 4.26 tied for 5 Champ Bailey UGA at 4.28 and Jonathan Joseph Auburn 4.28 6. Zedrick Williams OM at 4.29
