I don't think this is something to be overly worried about, unless he goes supernova like Beard the next few years.
He set himself up to be in the running for some legitimate jobs with his success at multiple high major schools and he used that capital to come back to A&M in what was essentially a lateral move. That doesn't strike me as a move you make on your way up to better jobs.
