Honest question about Kirby Smart

Not trying to troll or take a shot at the Dwags.
But does he coach scared or is he a nervous wreck? In big games I see his body language and play calling is concerning and doesn't project confidence.
Last year games with LSU and Bama, there were some key plays (questionable calls) that decided Georgia's fate.
Last week's game with ND, his play calling was conservative and kept ND in the game.
I still think Georgia is the best team in the East and will make it to the SEC championship game.

He will get more aggressive as the season goes on and i stand by my prediction, Georgia will be undefeated come playoff time. They have great athletes and are well rounded as a team.

I think it’s more just learning when to take risks and when not to. He hasn’t been a HC for that long.
In terms of being conservative, he’s likely always going to lean on his defense and the running game to some extent. That’s what he knows.
I’ve never noticed different body language. He’s always very active on the sideline. His biggest blowups are in games UGA’s winning, it feels like.

Yes, thank you for the correction.

I think Kirby goes by the saying "you take what the defense gives you". That's pretty much what Georgia did in this game. I think after the muffed punt, he got a bit nervous. I know I did. This win for UGA may get better as the season goes on if ND keeps winning. Remember, they only lost one game last season to Clemson and they returned a lot of players from that team. I'm not making excuses, but hell look at Michigan. Many experts had them possibly in the playoffs this year and they are nowhere near that. Im just glad we ended up with the W.

Kirby is just not that smart

It's easy to second guess the decision in game time. I wasn't crazy about the call to kick the FG on 4th and a yard, but I don't think it was indefensible.
We've seen Georgia have issues in short yardage plays dating back to last season along with KS gambles backfiring in a big way. Plus, there's no guarantee that, even if they picked up the first down, it would lead to 7 points.

There is no such thing as an honest question, only an honest answer!

Troll mode [Off] On
That is an excellent point.
People forget that Saban was a head coach for 9 years before he had his breakthrough season in 2003. Prior to that, he didn't really stand out from the crowd. He was a good coach, for sure, but he learned a lot over the years that made him who he is today. It took Dabo several seasons to get Clemson rolling. It didn't happen overnight.
Point being, Kirby is learning like any head coach has to, even those we now view as elite. Kirby is only in year 4. Hopefully UGA will be patient with him. They gave Richt 15 years so I see no reason why they won't be.

He always had a giddy-nervous look to me while he was at Bama. I personally think he's just that invested into his team and job. He literally takes it as seriously as he shows it.

I like Kirby as a person and a coach. I wish him well.

His call to kick the FG proved to be one that led to a win. Maybe making the other call to go for it would have as well. He said it was a tough decision. I think he trusts the defense more than the offense right now. I don’t blame him for that.

I think it is his entire identity and he loves it that much. That is good and bad.

To be fair Coley is the play caller on offense. One of his tendencies at Miami was not adapting the game plan well. If the game plan works he will frick you up. If you answer what he plans on doing he does not alter it well. Miami fans used to go crazy over it.

So in other words he is just like Chaney.

Considering the obvious half time adjustments on both offense and defense this is an odd point to try and make about ND game.
