There are rednecks in North Central Florida and the panhandle that would make Alabama proud!

Missouri.
Sorry. It is true. They aren't very Southern at all. I still think they are a great addition to the conference.
That having been said Northern Arkansas in general and NW Arkansas in particular aren't very Southern either.
I would say parts of Southern Indiana and Illinois are more Southern then Mizzou and NW Arkansas.

Geographically, Missouri.
Culture-wise, Florida.
Dual-personality wise, tossup between Texas & Florida. North Florida is southern...South Florida is Yankee.
West Texas is western...East Texas is southern.
Georgia is an anomaly...the state of Georgia is southern...EXCEPTION: the sprawling L.A. of the East = Greater Atlanta. It's Yankee, Western, European with a dash of Southern, the most cosmopolitan area in the South.

Well Texas isn't the south. Texas is Texas. So there is your answer.
If Texas is Texas, then that's what's wrong with y'all.
Texas is southern...one of the 11 states of the Confederacy, voted for and had slavery, and fought with the South in the Civil War.
Only the western half of Texas isn't southern--it's southwestern. I know...my family's from Texas along with many relatives and that's what's wrong with my family. :)
Kidding...I love the state of Texas...I just can't stand the University of Texas, a football program that had only 2 seasons of winning 10 games in a year until Darrell Royal showed up in the early 1960's and had never won anything until Royal showed up, yet they act and speak like they've owned college football ever since it was started. They're almost like Florida...newbie tradition and new to winning.

Any state that contributed to these numbers is Southern to me.
Edited to add “contributed”

Missouri is mid western. A lot of agriculture in the central/northern part of the state.
The Ozark area is fairly unique to other midwestern areas though, and easily my favorite region of the state. If you enjoy being outdoors it’s a wonderland.
Then 2 urban area bookends on either side of the state.
The boot heel area is really the only region I’d call “southern”

As others have stated, Texas has done a decent job of distancing themselves from the traitorous southerners the last 160 years. By God, Texas is not, and will never be, The South.

The Florida panhandle is very southern. The penis part is not so much.

Still salty leg humper? The other poster is right Texas is Texas. Bama never was that big until Bear showed up but Royal owned him. 1980.

Jacksonville’s not in the panhandle and it’s very Southern.
Ocala is pretty much the southern border of Dixie, from what I hear.

That's because we have the most transparent open privacy laws in the country.

Anything north of Ocala/Crystal River/St Augustine is indistinguishable from Valdosta/Dothan/Brunswick.

Not us. We have a giant confederate flag flying over a major interstate.

In fairness, this choade is our Senator, so we still have a solid number of big southern extra-chromosome dummies in Texas.

Pout as you may, but Texas is SOUTHERN. Actually, your drawl is more nasal and flat all lumped up in molasses. The REAL southern accent is genteel, Elizabethan in its origins, a demurred sense of culture. The Texas drawl sounds like the UNCIVILIZED version of the real southern accent...like brass cymbals trying to be heard through the other end of a cow's arse.
Nothing to be ashamed of in being from the South, Texas.
Y'all are as southern as the whispering dew on the petals of a magnolia in the cool of the morning in the month of May!

You know the Bootheel of Missouri exists, right? It’s only 60-70 miles from the state of Mississippi. So there are definitely “parts” of Missouri that are very strongly southern as well.
