Should we be below Texas and LSU in the preseason rankings?

I keep seeing from their fans since LSU embarrassed us and Texas beat us they should both be ahead of us. I can knda see an argument for LSU but it seems obvious to me we didn’t try against Texas or at least our hearts weren’t in it. Granted that’s part of the game and regardless Texas was the better team that day. Maybe I’m wrong and Texas is back. Thoughts?

I'll take "Things that don't matter and will get sorted out as the games are played" for $800, Alex.

Do you worry about NFL power rankings in the preseason? Or MLB preseason predictions?

I can't get myself to care.

It was more about having something to discuss since we’re a few weeks off from games. I’d feel different if were less than a week away. I know it has ZERO bearing on this season overall but what else is there to talk about for 3 weeks?

Recruiting, Position battles, matchup previews for specific games, potential losses to the draft after this season, other big matchups for rival programs... the list is pretty much endless... Preseason rankings and minute adjustments to them based on games that were played last year would seemingly be pretty far down the list.

I’m so unbelievably tired of this excuse.

For us this doesn't matter. There is no scenario where UGA wins the SEC and isn't included in the CFBP. There isn't even a scenario where the record at the end of this season would keep us out with a #5 preseason ranking where we'd have been in had the ranking been #3.

Well it was something about that game. Every time Swift touched the ball he fumbled.

More than anything, it's simply unnecessary. Texas was a good team. We clearly didn't have an answer for a QB that could get a head of steam and go get tough yards on his own, and then playing without Baker at DB put us at a bit of a disadvantage on the backend against what was a really stout WR corps. DL depth was just shot by that point... We weren't the same team depth wise in the bowl game that we mid-late season.

Do I think we were 100% thrilled to be in the game? Probably not... but it doesn't just excuse the performance either. Nor does it need to. That same Texas team went 1-1 against Oklahoma, another CFP team... Clearly, they had the athletes to hang with top tier teams. They schemed well to stop our defense and we just weren't healthy/deep enough on the defensive side of the ball to make enough stops.

I'll be concerned about what we saw in that game if we don't see significant improvement this season on short yardage obvious running downs (should be improved if for no other reason than a healthy Monty Rice crashing into the gaps and plugging up a lot of the interior run game holes, with depth behind him). Additionally, if teams are able to use that game as some kind of blueprint to stop us offensively, then clearly Coley's going to need to adjust/adapt. I'm cautiously optimistic on Coley at OC for now. We'll see if that optimism is well placed or not.

Win the next game on the calendar, it'll all work out.

I am more mad at our offense than at the defense for the Texas game. They didn't have injuries or excuses. Just a defensive front that slanted into our backfield and gave us fits at the line of scrimmage.

We lost all 3 phases of the game. Even with Davis, Walker, Rice, and Baker on defense, there is a good chance that we lose.

The good news is the emergence of Ojulari and Wilson. They can be critical to this season's success.
Hopefully, the offense understands what strong defenses are going to try to do against us and be ready.

100%... Hell... I'd rather lose a bowl game like that, where the end results don't matter and have it be a teachable moment for this season, than lose a game the same way this year and us not have planned for that same approach.

Obviously, the preferable choice is just don't lose, but if you're going to get outschemed/manned/etc and not have an answer... let's let those happen outside of games that matter in the long run... ie. division/conference matchups or CFP this season.

Do you think the offense got an answer with the way we ran points in the 2nd half?

Or do you think that was Texas in a prevent mode?

Little of column A, Little of column B? Really not sure. Tough to take too much away from the game that day, but at a minimum the coaches have the footage and have had a whole offseason to analyze it. I trust our staff in that regard.

Last year vs this year. We are where we belong but it does not matter until later anyway

I couldn't believe that Chaney or for that matter Pittman had no answers for DL stunts Texas was throwing at us.I get that we
were caught off guard for the 1st qtr or so but we were continually stumped throughout the game.

I think with Chubb and Michel , we still blow them out. Holyfield got tackled by the last defender multiple times. At least twice by the ankle.

Not sure about a blow out but I know we rush for more than 2.5 ypc but our OL was still confused and our OC was out coached....something you never want see as a fan.
