No, the biggest thing that would level the playing field and it's been discussed ad nauseum is to adopt the NFL OL downfield rule. They can go downfield ONE yard on pass plays. Beyond that, it's a penalty. Part two of that is ENFORCE it! Gus and people like him can bitch all they want but the defense is playing with one hand tied behind their back if they can't read run or pass based on blocking technique. A guy blocking you 3 yards (and beyond because it's not called) downfield on a pass play is just unfair.
Yep. This is the real answer. The 3-yard rule is absurdly offensive-biased.
There is no way for defenders in the front 7 to diagnose run/pass by reading keys on the OL if the OL is allowed to go 3-yards downfield. The entire RPO concept is playing off the defenders' reads in that time frame.
Personnel issues aside, this is the biggest reason for our drop-off in run defense, IMO. Because all the LBs can do is play the pass until the ball is actually out of the QB's hands. At that point, the OL is already to the 2nd level, and it's a 3-5 yard gain before the LBs are even in the play unless the DL can shake their blocks.
We put up dominant run defenses the last decade by having our DL play a gap scheme to occupy blockers, allowing the playside LB to diagnose his keys to fill the hole and the backside LB to scrape down the line behind him. The RPO has delayed the reads long enough to prevent the LBs from being able to do that before the OL is already on them.

Let’s start with chop blocks. This should be equal to targeting. Any block level or below the knee should be reviewed. If guilty... ejected. Set out the next game.
That’s not a chop block. That’s a cut block and is legal. A chop block is going to the legs of a player who is engaged with another player.

Yes I know. 2 OL engaged on 1 DL. I should have been more clear. But my point was should be equal to targeting. The OL that goes low should be called

Cut blocks should definitely be outlawed. You can't say player safety is important while allowing 290 pound men to dive at the knees of defensive players. The Arkansas player that put his helmet on Hightower's knee in 08 was executing a legal block. Way past time to correct it.

This. You could argue that Mac is significantly better than what we got out of Jalen in 2017. That roster had Calvin Ridley, Irv Smith, Cam Sims, Robert Foster, Jerry Jeudy, Henry Ruggs, and Devonta Smith. Other than Calvin, all of them finished under 15 catches and 270 yards

Yep! It was a 'cut block" that cost Donta Hightower in the '09 season Arky game.

Kinda Surprised there has not even been a mention of Braswell so far

I haven’t heard a thing about Timmy Smith either

Some connected guys have said Braswell and Smith are doing well, butt it doesn't appear likely they'll make the 2-deep at this juncture. They could get some mop up playing time though.
It's sounding like Sopsher might win the #2 NT spot, behind Dale. Ray will start at one DE spot with Baremore, Eboige, Mathis and Byron Young vying for the other starting DE spot and DE backup spots. Wynn may play rotationally too.

I hope Smith can get some time this season.

Maybe I read it on here but thought somebody mentioned Smith was a little heavy ... he will be a beast tho whenever it’s his time I think . I honestly thought Smith would make an impact from day one

Smith and Braswell both seem likely to be starters at some point. Having no spring camp this year has made it tougher than usual for newcomers to catch up to and compete with vets.

Found this interesting:

I'm really surprised the JAD and Ronald Williams are not being mentioned much in the secondary. I wonder if they are disappointing, or if the young guys (Banks, Branch, Moore) are just that good?

They'll have to pour sand in Braswell's britches for him to get in on anything other than third and long.

The info I've seen is too sketchy to tell yet how the secondary's 2 deep is going to shake out. Banks is a soph, so it's time for him to step up.
One BOL poster who says he's talked to a lot of guys who've seen practices said he thinks Kaho will likely be one of the #2 ILBs and that Moody has a legit shot at being the other #2 ILB.
Edit: Corrected, Banks is a true soph.
