That would be the second time that happened to Steele at Alabama.

Since this years defense is so much better than last years I decided to look up how many points per game we gave up last year, and to my surprise we actually gave up less points per game last season than we have so far this season.

We were the 9th best scoring defense last year giving up 18.2 points a game.

This year we’re 16th, giving up 18.4 points a game.

I dont understand that because the defense this season seems light years better than last seasons.

Outside of the Texas game, we have played big when it mattered most. LSU has an incredible offensive team this year and we were able to hold them to 28 points. We’re comfortable being uncomfortable. Unlike last year.

Mean PPG can be very misleading.

In 2022, Bama gave up 7 or less points 5 times - Utah State, ULM, Vandy, Mississippi State, Austin Peay. On the other hand, they gave up more than 24 points 4 times - Arky, Tennessee, LSU, Auburn.

This year they’ve only held 2 teams to 7 or less BUT they’ve given up more than 24 ONCE (28 to LSU).

This defense is so much better because they have delivered consistent performances across all calibers of opponents instead of shutting out the poors and laying eggs against the better teams.

This. We failed in the biggest moments against the best teams last season. LSU certainly had their moments but we accepted that they are just unbelievable on offense this season. But we didn’t give up 52 points like we did against Tennessee last season.

Agree…I think this is the difference, and being able to get off the field in critical
situations. Plus losing Anderson, Branch, Young and Battle probably
affected the numbers early in the season. Just think Steele has the D
playing with more confidence overall.

Steele’s version of this defense just lets dudes be dudes. Nothing too flashy.

Golding was way more exotic. Could get after bad offensive teams but got in its own way against better teams.

Agree 100%, when you have better athletes than everyone else you don't try and out think them. You just go hunting.

I forget what year it was…but I remember Saban saying ;
“ we’re simplifying things, sometimes you just gotta let go and let the horses run.”

The best thing to me this defense did all year was stone ga 3 times on that last scoring drive and make them burn a timeout to score. We didn't know that it didn't matter at the time but that ate up clock and was huge in that game. No way last year's defense does that.

Isn’t it refreshing not to see our defense looking at the sideline moments before the snap with bewilderment in their eyes?

Auburn game we looked really confused and let their QB run free all game. I think we are much more talented than them and it should not have been close. Disappointed in that performance and very puzzling.

When was the last time we haven’t struggled at Auburn ? They spend all year preparing for that game. I’m actually thankful for that game because we got exposed and still won. The coaching staff can teach the players and use it as an example of what not to do instead of getting exposed on the big stage like we’re going to be on Monday.

So what’s this deal about Saban shaking or trembling while meeting with the media this morning?

Anyone watching state and Ole Miss? This was probably Michgans best win and they are getting rolled by the rebs. Their D is hot garbage.

They're supposedly missing both starting CBs, but yeah, they suck.

They don’t have any wide receivers at all. No true vertical passing game.
