That's actually a fair point. It's unlikely that we'd keep a RB on the roster for 5 years either way... if they're leaving after 4 or less, probably no reason to bother with the redshirt unless he literally just can't find his way onto the field. I don't know that we'll aggressively try to force him onto the field, but he may end up cracking the ST lineup if nothing else.

So he can get some carries and play special teams. No reason to redshirt a rb.

McIntosh is a legit badass and could easily be in the 1-2 rotation by October.
Herrien is inconsistent and White has yet to carry a ball in college with both of his knees blown out.
Mtosh could easily be the future of this offense.
We don't know.
It will be exciting to watch.

RBs are very useful on special teams. They also need to put that on film for pro teams.

Yeah, that’s a good point. I just didn’t know if he was fast enough to play on our coverage teams, but we’ll see. I guess I just don’t see him getting a meaningful carry all year.

I doubt he redshirts
Why?
‘Cause, if they did, he’d be 30 by the time he’s a junior, which will more that likely be his final year if all goes as well as I think it will. Dude's a specimen.

I made this comment on the Recruiting thread as an aside and then remembered we had brought up Kenny Mc here...
Unrelated, but did anyone see the Dawgnation article talking about our backfield today? Apparently Kenny McIntosh has shaved .2 off his 40 yard time already since getting to campus (that would put him in the 4.6_s range...) He's dropped 10 pounds. I'm excited to see how he develops.

4.6 is just fast enough.
I do think alot of the 40 time debate is more of having real measure to test it accurately.
In the old days, a super fast back was a 4.3 guy, fast a 4.4, and fast enough 4.5.
Now we see there are very few actual 4.3 guys, and 4.5 is really fast.

So for 2020 (assuming Swift is gone) our backfield looks like this:
Zamir White
James Cook
Kenny McIntosh
Kendall Milton
That’s pretty good and it assumes we don’t add anyone else this class (which I think we will)
When we’re reaching the point that our 4th string RB in 2017 goes pro early after 2018, we’re starting to create the talent watermill Kirby was looking for.
