It's in Statesboro, GA - not too far out from Savannah. Not 100% but believe two of their top degrees granted are teaching and nursing?

Statesboro is a dump and a large portion of their students have almost as much of a chip on their shoulder/grudge towards UGA as tech people do.

In general I think most of the people that go there with realistic expectations (in other words, don't expect the same college experience as a major school like uga or bama or something) have loved it. It's in a small south georgia town so you should pretty much know off the bat what you're getting into. Very country, not a lot of nightlife, not very big. Because of those factors I think it's easier to go "all-in" on enjoying it, opposed to going to a school with 40K undergrads where you're basically lost in teh shuffle.

I have zero idea at all how things may have changed over the last 10-15 years, but at the time I graduated HS southern was always considered an easy backup school due to the horrendously low entrance requirements. Unless you are a total dullard it isn't difficult to get in. But again, for all I know it could have changed a bit the last decade.

Party school for dumb-dumbs and good ole boys.


That was its reputation when I lived in Atlanta.

GSU took over my school so I guess it's my alma mater. I never went to Statesboro though.

FWIW I loved GSU. There is something for everyone to do and you are only a 20-30 minute drive from Savannah. The campus is beautiful, and their campus rec program is top five in the country (no BS, ranked by NIRSA). GSU used to be a teaching college and the school has an excellent teaching and nursing program.

The people that to Southern love southern, almost cult like. Eagles love the eagles more than tigers love the tigers. Everything is “Hail Southern” or “GATA” and they have a badass eagle named Freedom who flies over the stadium. They are D1 now and do well, but they really dominated before, several titles. They despise App state. Contrary to belief, most GSU fans actually like UGA. It was not uncommon to see dawg gear around campus. GSU is an Addias school which was iffy for me.

Statesboro is actually an ok town. It’s 100% a college town, and there were plenty of bars to go to, ranging from club type to country music type. Plenty of good food, and always some type of fair or event. Cost of living was extremely low, and I barely if ever remember any crime.

I love GSU and I’m glad I chose them over some of the others. GATA!

SE Georgia is a shitty place to live.
