Little disappointed in the amount. He won 8 games should have given him a bigger raise... we gave Dan Mullen a raise after winning 5 games 6 years into his season and it was more than 3.2 million.
MS St. flopped relative to expectations. Some prognosticators we're calling them the dark horse of the SEC. I can't remember many State fans on this board predicting less than 9 wins with 10 seeming to be the majority.

Yep but many Moral Victory State fans are complacent with 4 wins as long as one of those wins is Ole Miss

I get extending the guy to help recruiting but it's such a strange time of year to do so.
Whatever. If he wins great, if he sucks he already has a buyout anyway.

quote:MS law will not allow us to sign a coach for more than a 4 year contract. This gets used a lot against our schools when trying to get new coaches. So the schools try to get around this by basically extending and giving a raise every year as long as you aren't fricking up.
I've never understood why'd you give a raise/extension to a mediocre coach no one is going after.

Even though he beat them with an inferior roster?
Yep, he wasn't winning that game in Death Valley.

yeah okay but frickING WHY WOULD WE DO THAT

It's been said in here but he got extended to 4 years. Unless you want to just cripple his recruiting efforts and give up on his tenure you have to extend him to the max that the state will allow. You can't have a coach recruiting on a 3 year contract.

Didn't he just choke away a bowl win against Iowa?

TO 4 years. SECN keeps running the ticker saying he got a 4 year extension, which isn't correct. He got a 1 year extension

Yes. He directed Guidry to drop the game winner in the end zone, he asked the refs not to call any penalties on Iowa, and he asked Fitz to keep his QBR under 20.
Poor coaching if you ask me.

Who the hell is coming after O & Moorhead?
You right. Just like I never understood A&M giving Jimbo 75 million guaranteed when he litterly ran the FSU program in the toilet!

Extend a guy like les miles with a 17 million dollar buyout. Now how do you feel about Moorhead.

quote:You had 13 points and 250 yards through three quarters against AU, despite a 3-to-1 TOP advantage. Your only TD came as a result of an 8 play 36 yard drive, and it took you three tries to get it in from inside the 1 yard line.
OTOH, in our 8 wins his offense managed to perform as well as any offense Starkville has ever seen.
Your offense only looked respectable in comparison to AU's which was gawdawful.

I didn't mean the offense was record breaking in each of the 8 wins, but in the 8 wins collectively it was as good an offense as MSU has ever had.
Against Auburn, JoMo decided to stick the ground game and not run his usual offense. The offense possessed the ball for almost 42 minutes, and Auburn went over 15 minutes of game time and over 1 hour of real time without taking a snap. (MSU held the ball for the last 8 minutes of the 2nd Quarter and the first 7:30 of the 3rd quarter). Yeah, I would rather have seen a couple more TDs instead of those 3 FGs, but it was a pretty dominant offensive performance.
And, oh yeah, we had 2 TDs, and our QB rushed for 195 yards. And only a 2 to 1 TOP advantage.
Still, that was the weakest offensive performance out of our 8 victories.

No, we had 16 points and 292 yards through three quarters, and we ended up with 418 total yards and 23 points with a missed FG. Math and facts are your friend.

But I'd hardly call that an impressive offensive performance, particularly in light of our own ineptitude on that side of the ball. Especially given the supposed superiority of your new offense-minded HC.
Still, I'm seriously wishing AL had the same contract law restriction that MS has.

From what I remember he was also out of time-outs on his final drive while they still had a chance to win it.
I thought Miss St turned it over on downs inside the Iowa 35 with about 25 seconds left?
No?

don't remember but we did turn it over once close to the endzone and once that allowed them to score points cause we turned it over on their 20.
MsState fans were predicting a 10 win season because we expected Guidry to be a star because he was hyped as such and supposedly the number 1 juco WR in the country. We also expected Fitz to get better and at least get close to 60% completion percentage. We also expected Fitz to hand it off to Kylin Hill more on the RPOs. This didn't happen.
