With spring practice in the books, the process of removing the current stadium field turf will begin followed by below the surface work to prepare for the new natural grass playing surface. The new grass, dubbed Tahoma 31, is currently being grown at Winstead Farms and should be ready for installation at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium in late July.

I wonder if this is a ploy to slow other teams down?

This is a little surprising for a team that wants to chuck the ball down field. I guess we can see foot injuries decrease, though. That's something to get excited about!

Drew Morgan approves! Basically said the turf was responsible for the majority of ankle/foot injuries.

Who would oppose this?

One of the issues with having grass turf in RRS, is the fact that Bermuda (the most commonly used in the south) stops growing to early in the fall, and suffer serverly from a cold winter, and is late is spring to get going again. Cooler weather turf grass options don't do well with the heat of summer, can't take the wear, or various other reason's.
Looked up the grass they are planning to use. It's a new Bermuda hybrid that is much more cold resistant, grows later into the fall, and earlier in the spring, uses less water, and handles the wear better. Hopefully this one pans out better. Remember all the games where there were off colored patches of grass because other grasses had managed to mix in. Looked pretty low grade on TV. Yeah lets not do that again.
FWIW, I support playing on grass over turf. Game was always to be played in the elements, and dirt, mud, and grass are part of the elements.

This is Chad's best move yet, I love going back to natural grass. And I know the turf department will be thrilled. They hated Petrino for switching to the crushed up tires and never forgave him.

Ever seen Baum for our February games? It's pretty damn green
Pretty sure they don't just toss a bag of Scott's out there. It'll be fine

To be fair, he was one of our toughest players during that tenure and worked hard.
Although the whole spit deal was really lame.

There was 35K there, easily, to watch the grass grow based on those pics.
