in response to no one in particular; this year was a complete over achievement. With the record for missed Xpts (if not the record, very close); moving from the mid 40's to the mid 30's in punts; the loss of the majority of the pass rush (Lewis, Allen for the entire season; then Miller for the champsionship game, not to mention Mosley slowed by injury for the latter part of the season; and Diggs to the broken foot for the majority of the season... it just continues) So with a D that actually overachieved also, until the end of the season when the lack of depth and a consistent pass rush, took it toll; I am impressed that OU didnt come back to win and the fact that the opening against CU gave Bama fans the idea that Bama would be able to go blow to blow just hurt more.
If the D can jell next year; there can be a consistent Kicker, and if Bama ever gets a punter that is close to JK Scott... well, what a wonder. This next year, should be a great year.....

You are pointing to a few mistakes. I am talking about Tuas full body of work. You know what though I'll oblige you.
Tua highlights
The 1st td pass In the Louisville game to Juedy was a great example of the "backyard" play that Tua used before injury. At the 1:17 mark Tua make a great move to his 2nd read with the pass to waddle. The devonta smith td at the 2:08 mark was a great example of Tua going through his progressing. 2:54 seconds shows a great example of Tua hitting his 3rd read for a td. 3:06 seconds shows what Tua was missing after injury. Before he had the threat of taking off for a first down every time the play was covered. 3:10 another example of "backyard" leading to a td. All 3 LSU game highlights showed Tua doing a great job of going thru progressing, waiting to the play to develop, and taking what the defense gives him. 3:56 seconds going thru progressing throws a td to the 3rd read. 4:40 is 2nd or 3rd read.

Tua is exactly the same player. Still forcing balls downfield, still ignoring checks, holding the ball forever trying to throw TDs each snap.
He wasn't that at the start of the season. He regressed into some hero ball habits as the season went on, but I'm not sure how much of that is the fault of Enos and how much of it was the insane amount of confidence I'm sure he felt along with the Heisman talk getting to his head
That's nearly exactly what I said a few weeks ago that you mocked.
edit to say I obviously agree with you, so no intention of arguing about it.

that was pre-NCG, that forced me to re-evaluate how I viewed his late season performances. You were right (sadly for us)

How do you do that when there is no threat of benching or any real consequences for not doing what your are supposed to do?
Relate to the kid if he truly wants to be the best he needs to adapt and grow. FFS in the NFL you have dual coverages running at the same time which change after the snap.
This kid is making one coverage which changes after the snap turn him from Joe Montana to fricking Joe Flacco.
If he truly wants to be great, you appeal to that side of him.. it ain't that hard.
I'm a testament to that.
as previously noted, Tua was making all the reads and check downs earlier in the season. Gary Danielson raved about it every game. So if he could do it then, naturally he didn't just forger how to do it. Better competition later in the year would certainly make it tougher, but he can do it. He'll be better next season. It was his first year as starting quarterback. He would have learned more if he were not pulled in the 2nd quarter so often.

Again you aren't understanding what we are talking about.
He is making the same reads. PRE-SNAP.
He isn't consistently making reads after he snaps. What MSU exposed is that if they shift their coverage after he snaps the ball it easily confuses Tua because he relies so heavily on his abilities and his pre-snap read of the oppositions coverage.

Great you used examples against piss poor defenses and LSU which was before MSU exposed his tendencies.
We have specifically discussed Tua's performances after MSU's gameplan where they used delayed middle blitzs, CB blitzes and coverages changes after the snap to expose us.
Every team after than used some or all of this against Tua and our offense.
BTW, the reason you analyze the plays things go wrong is to analyze what you did wrong, adapt and get better.

With the feeling in the complex being what it is, I can’t help but think the time to plan for After Saban is now. Waiting until the last minute to prep for the next guy will only exacerbate the problem.

Pretty sure that earlier you said he never does and may not get better. Now you've changed that to he isn't consistently doing it. I'm not inclined enough to search back, but you're coming around. He can make the reads after the snap, and he was doing it early in the season. The guy had 43 tds and only 6 interceptions all season long. Maybe you expected perfection from a kid in his first season to start, and half those games he was on the bench by halftime.
You keep bringing up the fact you played college ball. Perhaps you should advise us who you are so we can properly appreciate your knowledge.

Ok.Ill bite. What’s dumb about planning ahead? You can disagree with that and that’s cool but what did I really say that was so stupid? We had a great season but at 68 I can’t imagine Saban sticking around too much longer so I asked a question. It was easier to call me a troll and ignore it so whatever. I was just looking to talk Alabama football. I wasn’t saying Saban sucks and we need to move on, just that we need to think about the future. We aren’t exactly keeping coaches under Saban on a regular basis.
That wasn’t a convo anyone wanted so I’m cool with that and moved on. Clearly rubbed you the wrong way though.

Ozzie Newsome tried to talk Mack Wilson into staying in school? If so, I'll be damned. Mack ignored a Hall of Fame player and GM? If true, I'm glad Mack is gone. That kind of stupid is hard to overcome.
Why are you surprised?

He has drafted some great linebackers, first and foremost being Ray Lewis. If anyone can evaluate whether a linebacker is ready for the NFL, it’s Ozzie.
And let's not forget he drafted CJ Mosely also.

I get it and agree that in a normal situation Ozzie's opinion is incredibly valuable. I just think that to judge a player with an injury history, who risked really significant injury playing on a broken foot for bama in the Iron Bowl last season, for wanting to get paid is questionable. I wish Mack came back, but I can't blame him.
Guys like Mack need to get a degree.

Tua had struggles from MSU onward.
How did he struggle against Oklahoma? He had two passes hit the ground and would have had 5 TD passes if not for the penalty.
You may have a valid point in general, but just making up shite isn't smart.

To try and get this thread back on track and off the pissing contest it has become, Boz, is there any chance that Golding becomes the sole DC? I thought highly of him coming into the season and think he was coaching out of his position but I think he’s a great young up-and-coming DC.
