I don't understand why this doesn't make sense to any of y'all. It appears to me that Gus is simply betting on himself. He knows this is it for him and he wants to win at the highest level, so he is willing to take a short term hit for the opportunity to turn this program around.
Love it or hate it, it seems pretty simple to me.

And here lies the problem with Gus. He really thinks he can win next season. Despite his offense being broken, despite us having the worst Oline in the league, despite our dline going to the NFL.
I hope he negotiated a clause along with his lower buyout that says he can't be fired until after next year because otherwise I don't see him making it through October.

Yeah. We are going to be terrible next year. It would take a Cam like season long performance to change that. And Kelly Bryant is 1/5th Cam.
Gus will be fired September 21st, 2019, after we fall to 2-2 in College Station. The only question is will we pay for his flight back?

because it's not normal at all for egomaniacs to give away something for free when that something (salary, buyout, etc.) is a primary way they feed their ego

If this has legs, I'm curious how much of a financial reduction he agreed to. I'd imagine the board low-balled him if the goal was to run him off. $32MM was the original buyout, with $15MM due in 30 days. Maybe a 50% discount to really piss him off?

Does anybody believe Sexton would allow it?

I keep hitting refresh on Keef Kneebur's twitter waiting for some news. It has been like 2 years since he tweeted last but I have a feeling he will break some news on this soon.

That's what I'm thinking too. Unless Gus has negotiated in there that if we win 10 plus and beat bama and Georgia he get some monetary reward.

Yep. You definitely nailed the problem with Gus. Go get me a coach that doesn’t think he can win next season, and we will be all set.

I agree with this. And frankly, he should do this. Tells me he isn't greedy and genuinely wants to get it fixed. Considering he brought us to two nattys, I think that is reasonable for us to accept. We just had a 7-5 season, not a 3-9.

Obviously he wants to win. If this were the first shitty year under Gus we'd be fine with it. It's not, however. And he continually promises change and delivers none of it.

Well, we will definitely see one way or the other.

"Obviously he wants to win."
I would settle for improving. Unfortunately, in this age of college football, that requires more planning and execution than most education administrators and coaches are generally capable of. College football is a business, not just in the financial sense. We are going to struggle until we adapt to a much more strategic and professional management of ALL factors involved in success.
