Not that it needed to be confirmed, but I'm told it's indeed true, @RazorbackBSB pitching coach Wes Johnson is headed to the @Twins.

In some interesting news to say the least, @DanHayesMLB reporting @RazorbackBSB pitching coach Wes Johnson will become the next pitching coach for the @Twins.

This does not surprise me at all. Johnson had discussions with the @Mariners for their pitching coach opening, and at least listened to the @Angels as well, I'm told.

Man that sucks, I really like that guy.

Really huge blow to the coaching staff. I'm sure DVH will find a very quality replacement. Maybe former MSU head coach Gary Henderson is available.

How about we pull some of the money from Coach #FullTiltBooger's salary and the pay the coaches that earn their keep.
Nope - we will keep sinking money into getting #hammereddown

Wes just got a new contract making 280K per year, which is more than some MLB pitching coaches.
MLB pitching coaches make between 150K-350K with a select few making more.

Hearing the @Twins made a strong offer to Wes Johnson to leave @RazorbackBSB. Salary will be well north of $350K, I'm told, along with a multi-year deal to head to the #Twins. #WPS

I understand that revenue dictates expenditures but I'd feel better about Wes Johnson or DVH coaching the football team and/or running the athletic department (with zero experience) than what we have now. Spend the money and keep the good coaches. You remember Gary Blair? Yeah....he coached for a non-revenue sport but we should have fought and paid him as much as we needed to keep him. I hope we fight to keep our soccer coach when the time comes.
DVH is a Razorback and Johnson is as close as you will get to being a Razorback without playing for the program. They understood the program and knew how to get the most out of what they have.

Money can't buy everything, at the end of the day if you get an offer to go straight from college to the pros you're going to take it.
And if Wes has great success over these few years, he could be in line to be an MLB manager.
You don't pass that opportunity up.

Isn't DJ Baxendale in the Twins organization? Johnson coached him in high school. Funny how that works out.
Sucks for us though, but DVH knows a thing or two about hiring good assistants.

Exactly. You really can't blame him one bit.

Will start in 2019
This is a huge blow to the baseball program, not that this team was heading to OmaHog.
2020 looked to be another good run

once you make as much as some of these guys it isn't about money at all of course they take the raise but more than likely they have enough money to retire unless they have major gambling or spending problems.
it's about doing what you love, where you want, with people you like, and getting to chase your dream.

I loved reading his lips when he made visits to the mound when our pitchers weren't throwing strikes.

Amazing how little pro baseball coaches make. A pitching coach is kind of equivalent to a OC in football and some fricking college guys make 4 times that "lucrative" MLB deal will be.
DVH should offer the job to Virginia's pitching coach. He's great and has deep ties to Arkansas. Coached at ualr and his wife is from the state and all her family is still here.
Doubt he would leave, though, since it's basically a lateral move and he's loyal to that coach there. He's damn good though.

The Twins had to break out the bank to get Johnson to go to pro ball. He got a wonderful deal to go to Minnesota.
In many instances, these coaches are going to make more at the college level than they will as a big league pitching coach. Sign of the game's growth.
