Recently had a few conversations with friends as to Muschamp and Kirby. Mixed bag of who was the better DC.

Muschamp was a DC for Valdosta St, LSU, Miami (NFL) and Auburn.

Kirby was a DC for Valdosta St, DB coach for LSU, and DC for Bama.

IYO - Who was the better DC of the two? Looking for a friend.

Pruitt was a better defensive coordinator than either of them.

I think you’re splitting hairs saying who was better solely as a DC although Muschamp was successful at more places but that doesn’t necessarily make him better either

Bama D got much better once kirby left. We used to call it third and Kirby.

Pruitt better than both of them.

I hope fulmer sends Pruitt back to Bama sooner than later.

Well both were under Saban at some point. Both were very successful as DCs. It’s hard to say who was better since both defensive philosophies were created for the times in which they were applied. Muschamp was DC for LSU back in ‘03. Smart was DC much more recently. I don’t think it’s really fair to compare them as DCs since the offense has chaned so much over the last 15 years. Spreads and read options weren’t really around then like they are now.

Muschamp had a year at Texas too, and it wasn’t a good year

Muschump was not Saban's DC at Miami but you left out him being DC for Texas.
Kirby spent more time with Saban so I would give the nod to Kirby in that regard. However, Kirby has consistently had better talent to work with than Muschamp and the angry one demonstrated his chops more places.
I call it a draw.
Kirby is the better HC based on results. Boom was a total failure at UF.
