Wouldn't be shocked. But, Pruitt has a lot of rebuilding to do.

Did you get the order of your words mixed up? I assume you meant that WV is going to beat Tennessee to sleep.

TJ Moe is probably still not thinking straight from the time he got blown up by a kicker.

Posted this is another thread yesterday:

WV has a great QB and a nice scheme to really open up the field, but I think our defense will surprise some people. Pruitt's first string defense is made up of 9 upperclassmen and has all 4 and 5* players on the field outside of 1 CB.

Some interesting numbers here to back up his work at previous stops:

quote:

In 2013, Pruitt was hired as the defensive coordinatorat Florida State. In his lone season with the Seminoles, his defense ranked number one in scoring defense, allowing just 12.1 points per game, and ranked third in total defense, helping the 2013 Seminoles win the national championship.

In 2014, Pruitt joined the Georgia coaching staff as the defensive coordinator. His 2014 defensive unit finished 17th nationally in total defense, and finished in the top ten in turnover margin and passing yards allowed. Pruitt's 2015 unit at Georgia finished the season ranked seventh nationally in total defense, and led the nation in fewest passing yards allowed per game.

Pruitt returned to Alabama as defensive coordinator in 2016, replacing Kirby Smart, who had left to become the head coach at Georgia. His 2016 defensive unit led the nation in scoring defense and rushing defense, and was ranked second in total defense.[8] His 2017 Alabama defensive unit finished the regular season ranked second in total defense and first in scoring defense.[15] The unit was part of the team that won the National Championship in the 2017 season.

I also believe that his secondaries while at Alabama prior to becoming the D.C at FSU were all rated in the top 5-10 in the country in yards allowed.

Obviously UT doesn't have the talent that FSU & Bama had, but our cupboard is far from bare (w/ Jones gone) and he has proven that he's one of the better defensive minds in the country throughout his career.

I'd love to see UT win this one. I do think CJP will have them ready. They'll look like they at least have an idea of what they want to accomplish. But.....

Tennessee can win the game. If they hold serve early, the defense will only get more confidence throughout the game. They’ll play with a “swagger” we haven’t seen from Tennessee in a long time. Pruitt demands that if you aren’t a bad motherfricker you better pretend to be.

Look at their schedule- West Virginia didn’t beat a single decent team last year outside of perhaps Texas Tech. They barely beat Baylor, 38-36. They are the most overrated team in CFB this year and their defense and kicking game suck. Whoever scheduled them deserves a raise.

Tennessee has the better team and if Pruitt can fix whatever head issues have plagued them and find someone to stay with their big WR UT will win this game.
