I’m not, Mond has more upside and fits what Jimbo looks for in a QB more than Starkel does.

I suspect he’ll play the “Ive known for X weeks but couldn’t divulge the info” card

I meant I’m surprised Mond has improved enough to make this a competition let alone win it. Starkel was miles ahead of him 8 months ago.

As first reported by 247's Brian Perroni. Kellen Mond has gotten the starting nod from Jimbo Fisher for the season-opener against Northwestern St. Those reports are accurate and Mond has actually been taking the starter's reps since Thursday's practice but it's important for me to note that, as I mentioned last night, both starters are expected to see significant action on Thursday night as the battle for the full-time starting job is expected to continue through at least the season-opener.

Doesn't look like it this time.

Not really surprised either way. While Starkel is older, Mond has had some experience under his belt now. The "deer in the headlights" we saw last year should be gone now. I expect for him to he more comfortable at QB this year.

I just feel like Starkel’s arm talent is significantly better unless Mond has improved a ton. Mond is without a doubt the better athlete and less of a gunslinger. I just think Starkel fits what I suspect we will be running much better. We will see though

All reports are that Mond has improved a TON, especially in fundamentals. According to several on TexAgs, he trained with Whitfield in the offseason

As I said in the other thread, while I know plenty of high rated players don’t pan out, he was rated a 4 Star by most services so I’m hoping some of that is starting to show. Sounds like it if he truly is our game one starter.

Excited to see what we look like on Thursday night, even if it’s weak competition.

Not surprised either. There’s typically a huge jump from freshman yr playing experience to soph yr. That coupled with his work ethic and Jimbo’s coaching, prolly best for us all to erase last yr from our memories.

Now just concerned with Starkel transferring. We’re gonna need them both.

Qb transfers are out of control. Scott Frost named his starter over the weekend now the #2 is looking to transfer

I understand guys transferring out if they are beaten by a younger player or they have a new coach they didn't commit to.

Starkel red-shirted, and he is in a close race for the strating spot. I'll be surprised if he transfers. This will be his third year at A&M. It makes more sense to stick it out, graduate, and find a place to land for a graduate transfer year.

That makes me wonder: Would Nick be a candidate for a 6th year, since he hurt himself in the first game of his redshirt freshmen year? I don't know the guidelines that cover the 6th year stuff.

He went on to play ~half the season. Nope.

Oh, yea. Duh. I'm a big idiot.

Even if he'd missed the rest of the year, I don't think he'd have been a candidate.

I thought it would be Starkle, but with Mond I always go back to the fact that Briles wanted him. Briles is a douchebag, but the guy could spot QB talent, and saw something in Mond. Hopefully Fisher has been able to maximize that talent.
