It's almost 10 years since the Julio Jones scrimmage video was leaked online

Julio Jones scrimmage TD

We were less than two weeks away from kickoff against Clemson when a video leaked online showing Julio Jones beating Marquis Johnson for the football and then outrunning Rashad Johnson to the end zone for a touchdown. Of course it was just a scrimmage but it showed us a glimpse of the magical things the 2008 recruiting class would do in their 3-5 years at Alabama.

Thinking back to about this time 10 years ago, what were ya'll's thoughts heading into the Clemson game?

I thought we'd dominate Clemson and beat them pretty easily then go on to win 10 games and maybe get in a BCS bowl. Wasn't expecting to go to the SEC Championship

Was talking about that clip to a friend the other day. It was like a viral video of Superman being released. God awful quality but I think every Bama fan got it and sent it to 10 other Bama fans.

Never saw that before......thanks for posting. Julio looked like an NFL receiver out there as a freshman.

I was thinking 9-3 or 10-2 before the season. Didn't think we would dominate Clemson the way we did, but knew the team had a much better chance than media outlets were giving them in the preseason.

I remember at that point in my fandom, I just wanted to see us end the streak vs Auburn and start a couple wins in a row over Tennessee. Never imagined we'd get what we got that year. Man that year was fun.

Julio Jones might be the best football player that ever set foot in our state. It’s a shame he’s battled injuries, but he’s a sure fire hall of famer despite that. He was the rare man amongst boys as a freshman

Ha. That was my goal too. “I just want to beat Auburn & Tennessee in the same year.”

Once Fall Camp started in 2008, the news started leaking out that the team could be pretty special. By the time the Clemson game came, I was fired up.

I was the first person to upload it to YouTube. It got over 100,000 views.
I deleted my account a while back though :/

Hard to explain to someone who was too young or not around back then the feelings that whole class and that video gave everyone. We were so damned excited.

I still remember thinking on the drive to Athens we were going to get anal raped. Clemson was pathetic, we had the miserable Tulane game, and Shula Syndrome was still very very real in my head.

The 1st half of the blackout is the moment I knew we were back.

Two things on that video.

1. That was a hell of a throw by JPW

2. Despite Julio scoring, the fact the Rashad took the stiff arm and still recovered to make a tackle was pretty impressive.

But yeah, Julio was a manchild. He never looked like a freshman.

Same. That game had so much hype and buildup. That was the game that put our program back on the map

The way we just methodically stole their souls was so "LSU Saban". I didn't know we'd win out in the regular season or anything, but at that point I knew we were about to get the frick after people.

And we were going to fvck Auburn up. Which, as people above have said, was quite honestly the 1 thing I cared about at that point. And I wanted to just go to the SECCG again. Bar wasn't exactly where it is today.

Honestly I was still shell shocked with Shula syndrome going into Clemson. I thought Davis and Spiller were gonna tear us a new arse. By the end of the first half of the UGA game, I wanted Auburn RIGHT damn then. I knew were going in dry!

On that day, history was made. The first highlight ever filmed on a potato.

I followed recruiting heavily since prob 2000 or 01 .To say that was the most excited I was for football season in my 20 something years..... is a huge understatement. The days of a single top 100 recruit were over and I was ecstatic.

Damn I feel old.

TideSports was a fun place when this leaked. Quintoris didn't disappoint.
