Paw, they probably got the rumor from al.com, who in an article today had this to say
From same article, Notes & Intel (Free):
quote:LINK
-- Jarrett Stidham was limited some by a back issue during the summer but the expectation, per sources, is that the star QB should be fine moving forward.
From same article, Notes & Intel (Free):
quote:
-- Word is that Kam Martin, the current leader in the competition for the starting running back job, had a good summer. Got stronger and put on some good weight. Now up in the 200 pound range.
-- Auburn continues to be excited about grad transfer offensive lineman Jack Driscoll, whom it's probably safe to refer to as the current favorite to win the right tackle job. Driscoll impressed people behind the scenes throughout the summer.
-- Word is that Calvin Ashley had a good summer too, though. For now, it seems like he's still in the mix for that right tackle job, but it's possible the former five-star recruit could end up moving inside to guard at some point. Coaches think he's versatile and capable of making that move.
-- Some of the other vets I've heard had especially good and productive summers are wide receiver Ryan Davis, defensive linemen Dontavious Russell and Derrick Brown and cornerbacks Jamel Dean and Javaris Davis. Seems like sophomore linebacker K.J. Britt also had a good summer.
-- Lastly, people have continued to be complimentary of freshman receiver Matthew Hill, who enrolled this summer. A top-100 recruit, Hill has decent size at 6-1 and 185 pounds and is talked about as a versatile guy who runs good routes, has good hands and is smart and tough. Some other freshmen who had particularly good summers: running back Asa Martin, cornerback Christian Tutt and safeties Jamien Sherwood and Smoke Monday.

Another good al.com article, from yesterday; a circle jerk for intermediate route whiners like ive been.
More quotes from Chip and Stidham in article
quote:
The area of the field Jarrett Stidham is working to improve on in 2018
quote:
Jarrett Stidham's biggest strength is his ability to throw downfield. After all, nine of his 18 touchdown passes last season came on throws that were in the air for at least 20 yards.
However, there's another area of the field Auburn's starting quarterback is looking to improve upon in 2018: Intermediate routes, specially outside the hashes.
According to analysis by CFB Film Room, Stidham was 9 of 17 for 163 yards with an interception on throws left of the hashes between 10 and 20 yards and 7 of 22 for 108 yards on throws in the same range right of the hashes. Both of those figures rank in the bottom quarter of college quarterbacks last season and are in stark contrast to Stidham's excellent numbers at all ranges over the middle, inside 10 yards to the left and on deep throws in general.
However, intermediate routes were the least common throws for Stidham last season and offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey said Auburn will incorporate them more this fall.
quote:
As superb as Stidham is on deep throws, his 62 attempts on passes of at least 20-plus yards made up just 18.4 percent of his attempts (minus throw aways) last season, which tied for sixth in the SEC, according to CFB Film Room.
Pro Football Focus analysis also credits Stidham with strong passer ratings on out routes (79.8, 7.2 above NCAA average) and hitches (98.4, 12.5 above NCAA average), which typically are intermediate throws, with out routes being the most difficult.

a lot of posters on this board didn't think these two were "big" enough to carry the load 20 times a game
Personally, I always thought Mason was perfect for us. He showed that from the very first few runs he made for us. He was a north south guy and that is what we need for all the dive plays
As for KJ, he surprised me. I never thought he could take the pounding of being a every down back. He did better than I thought but he did get hurt and cost us when we got to our last games and bowl games both years we counted on him.
He was certainly better than I thought carrying the load...

Also, semi-OT but one of Washington's top rated 2018 signees (Composite 4-star; 247 5-star #21 overall) LB Ale Kaho asked UW for Release from NLI. Not granted yet but won't play vs AU. Due to unfortunate family issues. Sad, but was expected to come in and start at OLB, one of UW weakest position groups.

Buddy of mine coached at one of Navarre's "rival" schools last year. Asked their coaches about him and no one could come up with a negative on the kid.
