Oh I’ll be the first to say that if Gus does that if we have a big lead and he already has his yards. It’s when Gus does it against scrub teams where most have an issue with it. Those should be games we get young guys experience, that we just never do.

1000+ upvotes

For instance last year: why the hell was KJ getting 20+ carries against La Monroe the week before the IB?!

He reminds me a lot of Derrick Henry early on in his career. As he adds to his frame, I think he should also find it easier to run behind his pads. I’ve read that he’s almost 6’5, and 220 pounds behind that frame still makes him thin-like. I want to see him in the 235 range.

Unless he has hit a growth spurt, he isn’t 6’5. Solid 6’3 though. Could he be like a Henry? Sure. They don’t run the same though. Henry is and was much more physical.

I’m not downplaying Joiner. I was very excited we signed him. He is going to be a good one. His skill set is Charles Clay though. If we can utilize him like that, he is going to have a phenomenal career with a lot of production.

Kam Martin is up to 195 now? I just don't know if I believe that. If he is, how much speed did he drop? I always thought he was more of the Omac kinda guy just a little bigger. Fast as hell in a straight line, not much shake, and not gonna break many tackles. If he's 195 now, I have to think his speed has taken a pretty big hit. Dude was skinny last year.

think I’m starting to believe this now too. I don’t get worried as much about him getting injured, those can be flukes a lot of time. I’m just worried about breaking off first tackles, and putting your head down and getting 2 yards when the defense sells out the run. That is really where KJ shined. He was so good at making the first guy miss, giving a stiff arm, and getting 3 yards out of nothing.

I think Kam can break off plenty of 10 yard runs when there is a hole, but would also have more negative or zero yard runs. I really hope Boobie balls out and we can sprinkle Kam in for 10 runs a game.

Historically, unless someone can prove me wrong (and that most likely will happen), Auburn has faired better with guys that can pound between the tackles, Caddy, Ronnie, S. Davis, T. Mason, Rudy, K.J. etc., bigger bodied backs...then going with the change of pace guys that I was expecting K-Mart to be to soften the edges. Didn't expect him to be the every down back.

If you remember, Derrick Henry was a lot more finesse early on in his career. Granted, he was bigger, faster and stronger than everybody in high-school and a lot of the time in college. He didn’t always run with such physicality, though, from what I remember.

Now you are also on the dark side.

Pretty much what I have been saying for two years. We are recruiting too many smaller backs over the years and not able to capitalize on the bigger guys we need.We have gotten a few but they either bust or get gone

Right. Henry would go down pretty easy in the backfield. It was in the open field that he broke tackles and stiff armed mofos into the ground.

Yup. I used to bash him for being soft, then he won the Heisman trophy.

Joiner's film looks ok. He has a burst for being 220, doesnt break tackles for the most part, but does have good hands out of the back field and has decent speed.

good pick up and may work his way into the rotation.

Hopefully the four game redshirt rule will change this. That rule could’ve possibly kept KJ healthy by the SECC so hopefully Gus will use it to our advantage.

Yep, I was going to say something but decided to let it slide. Mason was labeled a scatback and everyone wanted Kerryon to be Pettway's size.

At times Henry looked like he wasn’t even having to struggle to. He was an intimidating presence coming at you full speed, while you stand there and wait to see if he is going to plow through you, or make a cut you can’t react to because you are prepping for a frontal assault!

Chizik spoke to team last night and Gustav tweeted a thank you. Tweet

Also, fire up RUMORU (calling Jonesy): 247 thread and a Washington board claiming Stidham injured lifting weights recently. We'll obviously know.. like today haha
