I'd be willing to bet that if you look hard enough, you can find pictures of guys who were committed to UGA wearing Auburn gear at an OV. It's just the way things work today...

his size

This is I think the primary driver for why we aren't prioritizing him... He's only marginally bigger than he was as a freshman in HS...
2015: 6'1" 195 LINK
2018: 6'0.5" 202-210 (multiple different sources)

If we wanted him as an OLB, that size wouldn't be that problematic (see Adam Anderson... still skinny but impactful), but at ILB, he would not be an immediate contributor in our system at his size... and frankly it could take him a while to get there... I can't imagine he hasn't been trying to add quality mass over the past 3 years.

I wonder if he could put on 10-15 pounds. If his weight is at 210, another 10 pounds could make a big difference. Wasn't Roquan 230 or so his senior year?

Some people have a hard time putting weight on, no matter the regimen they work. I always had a hard time putting on weight. No matter what I did I couldn't gain weight....not even in college. It just wouldn't happen for me. Metabolism....whatever...

Cause we're getting Dean

Hopefully.

Welcome to da club.

Yeah.. I fully anticipate that he'll be able to put on some weight... whether he can maintain it through a season is another question altogether.

That's probably correct. He was 236 going into the draft. Keep in mind that Roquan came in at 6'2"ish 207... and played sparsely his freshman year, looked promising his sophomore year (but wasn't the stud we saw in 2017 yet), and then exploded in 2017.

Could see Pappoe having a similar peak trajectory, but there are a lot of things that have to go right there. I think our staff is looking at Dean in addition to some of the guys on the roster and thinking "we need guys to plug into the middle yesterday".

Or he could become the next Trey Blackmon.

That guy always looked like his body would put more weight on IIRC. Also, S&C in HS today is >> then, no?

It's funny how people react to playing in season. I've seen some people gain a lot of weight during the season and some lose weight and can't get it back. Oddly enough...it is usually the guys that need to weight that lose it, and the guys that need to lose it gain.

Yeah, I was hoping Quay Walker would be that guy. I haven't heard a whole lot about him though. Has he played a lot, or are they looking at a red shirt year for him? It could be I just see Walker on the back of the jersey and think D'Andre, though.

Crap, when I played schools were just beginning to hit the weights good. One school I went to required the players to lift weights or play another sport all year round, and the other school just required weight training on your own 3 days a week during off season. Then the football team took PE last period together and lifted weights and ran in that period.

So the Volquest guys all went to Grayson to do an interview with Grayson’s head coach, Morris, Pappoe, and Kenyatta Watson. They typically only do this with current commits

I'm really trying to not get too excited.

But it's looking like we are getting ready for some massive commitments.

Unless something crazy happens, Darnell Wright is a VOL. If we flip Pappoe and Watson, we're looking at a top 5 class. We still need a RB, Eric Gray is most likely the guy. And we need more Defensive ends.

I have the same feels baw. I have not forgotten last year’s signing day gutpunch but this year does seem a little different.

Agreed. I feel good about them right now. Crouch is a Clemson lock imo, Haselwood is pie in the sky unless he visits a couple times soon, and I will believe we flip a Bama commit like Eboigbe when I see it. I really wish we could flip Logue or Anderson

Quay Walker was mainly an edge rusher in high school and now he’s learning to be a middle backer. He’s learning. Radi Nabulsi described him as a destroyer of running backs in fall camp. Next year he should be a force.

From Chad Simmoms this morning:

quote:

Owen Pappoe

has never been a boring prospect to cover. The talented athlete will have recruiting fans and college coaches on the edge of their seats until he signs his letter of intent. He is committed to Auburn, but is Tennessee the school trending? I say yes. What say you? Georgia had Pappoe on campus last weekend and the Bulldogs are in this, but as of today, Georgia is a distant third. Auburn and Tennessee look to be fighting this one out right now and he will be one all will be watching until December 19.

Damn, I just remembered that. That was brutal even for a non-Vol fan

4 SEC teams in the top 5 would be pretty remarkable.

And I guess it could technically end up with the top 5 if LSU stays up there.

Bama, UGA, A&M, UT, and LSU would make the rest of the country claim bias for dayssss...

6'4 240lb ILB, Yikes. ILB position won't be lacking for a few years with Walker, Tindall, Rice and a couple more potential stars in the 2019 recruiting class.

Regardless of where they end up, I'll be glad when this group of Grayson players is gone, hopefully taking their handlers with them.

Some major talent at that school. Major baggage to go along with it.

Some how I doubt it. The guy does interviews saying he's being lied about and then I see him first hand trying to get kids to go to Grayson University.
