What a crock of shite that thing was. Every single questions was about VIP, Club level, etc. seating. Not a damn thing about actually making Coleman a better environment, all about making the Athletic Department more money. Here's what I put in the last section for additional comments.

quote:

All of these questions seemed to pertain to making the Athletic Office more money, as opposed to making Coleman Coliseum a better environment for students, fans, and most of all the players. Disappointing to say the least, as Coleman for years has often had a dead atmosphere. I understand it takes money to put a quality team on the court, but most of us aren't made of money and just want to go watch a college basketball game in a unique environment. Couldn't care less about upgraded food options, VIP access, plush seats, etc. I care about watching quality basketball in fun environment. Keep tayloring options to the well-heeled and you're going to turn away your core base. Roll Tide, I guess.

I hope more people answered the way you did. You summed things up nicely.

The University has been tone death about Coleman for years.

Coleman Coliseum, at least in it's current form, is an albatross for Alabama Basketball.

No doubt. I was just astonished the survey was about Coleman Coliseum enhancements, and every enhancement pertained to Club level type seating. Seriously? This is the problem they see with Coleman? Asking if I'd be willing to spend $15,000 per year for some courtside seats with club level access? Hell no. Give those seats to students.

Leave it to Bama’s AD to drain every last nickel out of the fans.

Why were none of the questions about demolishing it? The only 'renovation' I would want is a complete teardown to the foundations.

If they completely screw this up with Coleman, then fans shouldn't even get invested in the program anymore. Why should the fans care so much, when the school doesn't care about the program or the fans? I hope they do this right because I love basketball.

I feel bad for anyone paying extra for that shite. How come lesser programs like Ole Miss and Auburn invest into getting new arenas, but we sit back with a giant thumb up our arse?

I love our baseball program, but they don't make any money. We should have renovated our basketball arena first.

Would piss me off to a new extreme if the "renovations" are to improve club level and VIP sections.

If they aren't going to tear it down and rebuild it in the same location, then gut the inside completely and rearrange the seating entirely. Put the students on the sideline right on top of the floor

That's the problem with Bama athletics in general: they (mostly Saban and football) have been so successful and raked in so much money, that they think it's the University of Alabama Country Club, average Joe not welcome. I know top notch facilities take money and all that stuff, but there HAS to be a place reserved and beyond reproach for the students and the fans. And by fans, I mean middle class America, not the Brombergs and the Drummonds. God bless 'em for their support and I know we need them too, but not at the expense of Joe and Jane Everyman. At the end of the day, it's just as much our university as the blue bloods. Sometimes, it can't be all about the benjamin's and the box seats.

I gave about the same response to end the survey as well. I know the big donors are the ones who get the ball rolling for everything, but that survey couldn't care less about actually improving the atmosphere.

I mean you can get away with it for football because they play so few games. Plus its Bama football which has a history of success....or I should say the most successful ever.

Bama basketball needs to be built basically from the ground up and that means they need to energize the students and and fans. I am cool with luxury amenities and all that but you got get the people energized. The best basketball programs have the crazies down low.

Because they aren't going to demolish it. Why ask a question about something you aren't going to do?

Coleman was an ancient dump when I walked across the stage there for graduation in 1998. 20 years and marginal improvements later have not done it any favors.

Level the piece of shite, play games in Birmingham for a year and build something that everyone can be proud of.

End of rant.

Someone in the know told me that they were going to do what alot of us were thinking. They are going to take out the entire upper section and turn them into luxury boxes, bring the seats closer to the court, and add in more lighting. I don't know how this will effect ticket prices, but I'm sure they will be steep.
