Question for the Mizzou fans on here It looks like Central Missouri is closer to the western part of the state. Since the championship is in Saint Louis, isn't Mizzou closer? If so, why did Mizzou not sponsor this years tourney in St Louis? If so the early rounds might have been on SECN.

I don't think Mizzou has a bowling team.

Is the Tropicana about 100 years old? Or was it built more recently, like say after WWII or maybe the late 70's?

looks like late 60's, and hasn't been touched or updated since the grand opening.

Not sure that is necessary

If memory serves, when the Final Four was in Rupp in the mid 1980's the NCAA sponsor was not UK (as they might have been in it) and was sponsored by Transylvania University (which was Division II school?) as it was a few blocks away from Rupp Arena.

If Nashville did the NCAA bowling tournament it would have to be sponsored by a school like Belmont and not Vanderbilt.

I see

Wonder if it was built on a previous site or the stuff from 100 years ago was at a different site. Odd bit of trivia, historically bowling and funeral business were the least likely to fail and had the lowest business risk. Seems that even held true through the 1980's and 1990's. Seems this is not still true in the Millennial Age.

Wow, that is odd.
Not nearly as odd as a grown man updating women's bowling, but then what is.

Why is that odd? Ol Rooster can't get Clemson out of his feeble old brain, so I know I can come for the Clemson updates.

Plus, people love bowling.

This is probably one of my least favorite places I've ever bowled. Worst being the alley in Pine Bluff

[shudders]

I haven't bowled since a few years back when I went to one of those rave-like bowling parties: Midnight til whenever a.m., blue lights and techno music. Thought I was having a 3 hour seizure

Pine Bluff was a rough place back in the day. Have not been there in 30 - 40 years but unless it got better, not sure I would ever want to go back.

A Tater on a SEC site?

At least if you limited it to football treads as that is all you say you care about it would seem less creepy. You seem envious not to be in the SEC even tho you often deny it. You say all these other sports don't matter yet you still post on their threads.

As for updating bowling, normally some Vandy person does this but had not seen it posted so far this year. Maybe this is a young Vandy team and they thought they would get eliminated early but point being, I am not the only one to start and update bowling threads.

Bad enough the Taters suck in their secondary sports but worse is commenting on an SEC board where you be at the bottom if you had to compete in this league day to day. You have sucked in soccer since the ACC went to 12 and beyond. Not sure your men or women have even been to a Final Four in basketball, much less won it all.

You guys are ducks and everybody knows ducks envy the swans.

Vandy swept No.1 Nebraska today and will play in the semi tomorrow at 3 pm CT.

I actually watched and I have no idea how this thing is scored but it was more exciting than I would have thought.

Not sure Mizzou has a womens bowling team, which would be a big reason they didn't host.

Also, i LOL at tropicana, have been up there a few times back in the early 90's to pick up a buddy, and pete webber was in there, back in his coked up, hard liquor days. He was/is such a dickbag

They have a new format this year

A new championship format
There is no Thursday qualifying for seeds as in the past; seeds were determined by the NCAA Committee based upon the season's performance and announced when the field was revealed. Vanderbilt is the No. 4 seed. As was the case in the recent Southland Bowling League Championship, teams will first play a traditional game, followed by a 5-game, total pin fall Baker series. Should one team win both contests, the match is over. Should they split, a best of seven Baker match will determine the winner. In past championships, teams played best of seven Bakers once double-elimination play began. It is thought that the new format better identifies the most complete team as past formats saw occasional upsets when one team may have played over its head for a brief time.

NCAA uses the Baker System, here is some background:
The Baker System is a team format where more than 1 bowler comprises the score of one game. The most common would be the 5 person format where bowler 1 bowls frames 1 and 6, bowler 2 bowls frames 2 and 7, bowler 3 bowls frames 3 and 8, bowler 4 bowls frames 4 and 9 and bowler 5 (often referred to as the anchor) bowls frames 5 and 10. The order is set at the beginning of the match but can be changed after the completion of each game. It is common to see the baker format in intercollegiate bowling and some tournaments. It provides a lot of team camaraderie, additional pressure and an awesome close out to the night. Additionally there must be some careful strategy in setting the line up.
