Will we find a way to use Fields in packages?

It sounds like Fromm's keeping Fields at arms length behind him in the battle, so assuming all goes as planned, could we see a David Greene-D.J. Shockley sort of pattern?

Maybe we run Fields as the Wild Dawg quarterback with Swift or Cook next to him for a passing threat present in that package.

I think the possibilities are as tantalizing as what we could do with him actually starting. Sounds like both kids have good attitudes as well, so I think they'll both handle it well emotionally.

With Fields taking the former WD snaps, it's no longer the Wild Dawg, unfortunately.

Probably, but you don't take Fromm out just to give Fields some packages. I see our offense being pretty dominant this year. So hopefully that will open it up for Fields to play in the 2nd half a lot.

When a QB runs the wild dawg it’s called Shotgun

Why not? We take him out (or send him out to WR) to run the Wild Dawg, so how would it be any different? If it gives the defense another set of problems to prepare for, it can only help the offense.

Thanks for the technical correction. Preciate it.

If you're running the same concepts that you ran in the Wild Dawg, then does it matter what it's called? You may as well still call it the Wild Dawg.

The problem for Fields is that Fromm is great on 3rd downs and in goalline packages. Those are traditionally the wild dawg packages.

Fields is going to have to earn his time the traditional ways. Either by being better than Fromm or waiting for junk time at the end of games. If we can beat up on the East like we did last season, it will go a long way for his development.

This is the reason Fields will get a lot of playing time this season. Our offense should be top 20 at worst, if our defense can just be solid along with our easy schedule we should blow a lot of teams out. I guarantee you Kirby doesn't play conservative anymore

I don't forsee any issues in the SEC other than LSU, USCjr and Auburn. Fields should have the equivalent of SEVERAL full games by the time the SECCG rolls around.

I feel like many of the Freshman will have a lot of playing time by the time the SECCG rolls around

USC will be closer than the others. I think we beat Auburn by 2 scores at least.

We are clearly more talented then USC. I believe they hang with us the first half, but then we shut them down the 2nd half. The only reason it wont be a blowout is because it is in Columbia and its early in the season and our young defense will still be adapting

It would be the wild hawg, which involves passing. Dmac was awesome at it. It's a better version than what we run.

Fields is learning the whole playbook. The backup, if needed, has to know as much as the starter. I don't think that there will be any plays can't be run by either QBs.

This is how I would play it. You guys are all but guaranteed to blow out everyone except LSU and AU. Let him get plenty of mop up duty including a couple series here and there with the first string.

No way I would force him in there at scripted times just for the sake of doing it, especially in a game that hadn’t been decided. (The Shockley to Gus Scott pick six is a prime example why).

I think it will look like Leak/Tebow. Fields will run the wild dawg, but we will actually throw it some.

Unless the o isn't doing well. The Shockley tds vs Clemson are prime examples why.

Idk about this one either, 247 was reporting that Hardman has been getting snaps in the WildDawg

I would have no problem putting the in the backup in that situation.

Mecole Hardman will probably be our primary Wild Dog receiver from what I've been reading. If Fields gets snaps it's from QB. No one will be fooled by Fields going back in Shotgun as a designed run. Fields will run the offense if he plays....likely in garbage time year one.

What's with people wanting to play Fields just for the sake of playing him?
