Could the SEC make history tonight?

What is the record for number of teams from one conference to make the Round of 32? I figure the title probably belongs to the ACC, though I'm not sure. I went back and checked the ACC...
In 2017, the ACC sent 5 teams to the Round of 32 (Virginia, Notre Dame, Louisville, Florida State, and Duke).
In 2016, the ACC sent 6 teams to the Round of 32 (Miami, Duke, Virginia, Notre Dame, Syracuse, and North Carolina).
In 2015, the ACC sent 6 teams to the Round of 32 (Virginia, North Carolina, NC State, Louisville, Notre Dame, and Duke).
Prior to 2015, the ACC was not so large of a league, and it appears the most teams they ever sent to the Round of 32 was five teams (2007 and 2004).
So if the SEC sends 7 and possibly even 8 teams on to the Round of 32 after tonight, does that set the all-time record???
That would be quite an accomplishment.
The ACC's performance in 2016 has got to be the most impressive league performance ever. They not only sent six teams to the Round of 32, but they all won and went on to the Sweet 16. Four teams made it to the Elite 8.... and two teams made it to the Final Four. I don't see the SEC topping that this year, but we could very easily break their record for most Round of 32 participants.

I think just two lower seeds lost yesterday. I got a feeling this will be the day of upsets.

The SEC as a whole investing in basketball is paying off. Hopefully LSU can make some real noise next year.

The SEC is looking good so far in the tournament.
The ACC might have a historically bad year this year in the tournament if the current trend continues.
I think the best marker is how many teams from your conference end up in the Sweet 16. The ACC did set a record in 2016 with 6 of the 16 teams from the ACC.

Big East with 16 teams was the dominant conference for about a decade straight before the ACC. Check them.

The old Big East had 11 teams in the tournament in 2011. I'd have to imagine at least 6-7 of them made the second round

I think you have to include 1996 in the conversation. Only 4 teams from the SEC were invited. All four made the sweet sixteen and we were close to having 3 teams in the final four (That Georgia - Syracuse game was one of the best games of the tournament).
We also had four teams make the final 16 in the NIT (Including Missouri), but all four teams were matched up against each other so only one of the 4 made it to the final four.
