I believe every coach should be fired in football if they don't win 9 games after year 3

And basketball coaches should be fired if they don't get to round 2 by year 4. It's time to hold coaches accountable!!
Eta: I am not asking for unrealistic expectations. Some of you are acting like I'm demanding a ny6 bowl and a sweet 16 appearance. Leaving a coach who sucks around too long hurts far more than firing him too quick. Btw I doubt a guy who coaches here for 3 years and doesn't get to at least 9 wins in a 13 games season will ever be anything more than average at any program.

Yes. Let's end up like Tennessee football. At least most of our embarrassments are on the field.

Only one comes to mind who didn't have at least 1 succcful season in first 3 years is Frank beamer. And asking for 9 wins is not much in a 13 game season. Stop being cucks

Eyeroll all you want but stats show that if a coach can't get a team to at least 8 or 9 wins (usually by yr 2) he's not good and never will be.
I talked to an analytics guy recently and he said the truly special guys can get a total shite team to 6-7 wins in yr 1 no matter what and get 10-12+ wins in year 2, almost no matter what the school.
He said a really good coach will get it going to 10+ by yr 3.
He said basically every model shows that's if a coach can't get those numbers by yr 3 nowadays it ain't gonna happen and coach is not very good.
I believe him, fans just need to take off the blinders. Look what Frost did at UCF, look what Saban, Meyer, Kirby did at their power Schools, look what Briles did at Baylor, Kiffin at FAU, etc etc etc...

That might be true but the last analytics guy that people on this board loved to talk about said Bert was going to be great.

That's cool and all, but good luck getting a coach worth a damn to come to a (currently) low-level SEC school after 3 guys in a row have been fired by year 3 because they didn't reach 9 wins. I'm sure Tim Horton would be excited for the opportunity, though.

Yea we have such a plethora of instate or nearby talent within 300-400 miles to become a power in football right?
Your formula is wrong especially at Arkansas because our state produces basketball players and with only 13 total scholarships that means most years taking only 2 or 3.
Basketball is the quick fix sport with the right coach and was ripe for the picking years ago before the recent surge in better coaches.

Yep, the difference between our football and basketball talent at the high school levels is crazy.

My formulas not wrong. Petrino won big by year 3. So don't tell me I'm wrong I've actualky been proven right. Hell even nutt won 9 games by year 3

Don't waste your breath on these loser mentality stuck morons. They'd rather call Petrino's success a fluke and say it's just too hard to win at Arkansas than admit that we have sucked at hiring coaches. Petrino did have us at 10 wins and a BCS bowl in year 3 but I don't know if I would put a hard cap of 9 wins. Usually you can tell just from eye test whether or not a coach has what it takes by then. Injuries and things of that nature can skew win totals.

I offer a new contract. $750,000 per win. Flat rate
Incentives work for CEOs
Also, no buyouts. 3 year contracts. Both parties must agree to renew

Good coaches are also going to let the profession dictate how they approach negotiations. In a perfect world, we'd pay per win and coaches would earn the money. But buyouts and salaries are only going up and will until the TV deal bubble pops.
If you want to set those expectations on an up-and-comer, then sure. But no established great coach is going to go to a school that says "hey, 9 wins by year 3 or you're fired" over every other school that says "here's $40 million over 7 years and a $10 million buyout".

Hell, if we're willing to pay $10+ million every 3 years in addition to the guaranteed money left on the remainder of the contract in the off-chance we strike gold, them I'm all for it. It's ain't my money.

I just don't think it's realistic to expect us to always hire the best coach in the country.
I expect us to compete and play good football and basketball but reality of championships 10 win seasons etc is while being good is a must. being lucky id also required most of the time.
