19. KING MWIKUTA - Alabama (signed)
![]()
Measurables: 6-5, 240
247Sports Composite: No. 160 overall; No. 9 WDE
Evaluation: Tall and long. Has the prototypical build for an edge rusher. Pure speed rusher with one of the quicker first steps in the 2019 cycle. Fires off the ball and typically blows by opposing offensive linemen. Has natural flexibility with the ability to run the arc and dip/bend around the edge. Consistently creates disruption on pass downs by way of quarterback hurries. Primarily plays with his hand on the ground in high school but looks to be just as comfortable playing out of a two-point stance. Has the fluidity and athleticism to be a stand-up edge player in college. Shows good hands at times but is raw from a technique standpoint. Improvement of secondary moves will help in finishing plays. Will need to increase strength at the point of attack to get better as a run defender. Projects as a multi-year Power 5 starter after a few years on campus. Projects to be chosen in or near the third round of the NFL draft.
NFL Draft projection: 2-3 Round
Player comparison: Kony Ealy, Dallas Cowboys
4-star OLB King Mwikuta 6-5/240 GA hudl *

Any chatter on Marcus Banks? It was interesting that he decommitted from LSU after visiting for the Bama/ATM game then things seemed to go silent. With him committing Jan. 5th and possibly having signed any chance he is in this class or are the numbers just too tight? I know some people want Dent but we don't seem to be as high on him as others.

When the frick did he commit to Alabama?
Posted on 12/22/18 at 9:20 am to labamafan
He might have signed secretly but I doubt it. I doubt that journalist has any inside info. I think it was just lazy reporting. Someone went to the 247 site, saw he was 100% to Alabama from the crystal balls and though that meant he was committed

So UGA went 3 for the top 20 and 5 for for the top 25 in state in a loaded year and still finished second? Weird.

Caden Clark looks and plays like Gronk.....not super athletic ala OJ and Irv but solid hands, tough and runs good routes.
I'm sure OSU will come after him but he may hold a grudge since they ( OSU ) basically took a scholly away from his brother a few classes ago that forced him to Kentucky

I don't think there's room, unless Bama pushes for him instead of Williams. It looks like he may land in the spot at ATM opened by Scooby's flip. He has lot's of ATM CBs.

Even if William's is looking around?

Idk if he has a green light to take Williams spot. If he did and wanted in, it seems to me that he'd be signed.

I figured Banks was a take after Saban had an in home visit with him.

And, I thought Williams was looking at LSU.

We now have 23 signed plus 3 more commits in RB Keilan Robinson, DL Byron Young and DB Christian Williams. It appears that DT Ishmael Sopsher and ILB Henry To'oto'o are takes and that Bama leads. I think OLB Kris Bogle is also a take, but Idk if Bama leads over nearby Miami. I think Young and Sopsher are above Nathan Pickering on the board, and it also appears unlikely that he'll flip. Idk for sure the total number Bama can take or how the top targets are ranked on Bama's board. Priorties may be affected by potential early departures to the NFL and/or transfers.
Edit: A top insider said, "Staff definitely wants to add another pass rusher to this class." I assume he means an edge rusher like Bogle.

Christian Williams still high on the Tide
Christian Williams is one of the Tide’s verbal commits that will not sign during the early signing period.
He will take official visits to Alabama and to another SEC school.
In the video below, he discusses the Tide and his visit plans with Touchdown Alabama’s scouting/recruiting analyst, Justin Smith.

He struggles to say what it is that he likes about LSU.

Nick Saban prepared for possible transfer from Jalen Hurts after 2018 season
Nothing has been confirmed on Jalen Hurts’ destination after this season; however, a subtle comment was made from Nick Saban in Wednesday’s presser.
The University of Alabama added 23 student-athletes for its 2019 signing class, which currently stands at No. 1 in the nation by all major recruiting sites. Saban was able to land two four-star quarterbacks in Taulia Tagovailoa and Paul Tyson, with both labeled as “pro-style” prospects.
Upon receiving a letter of intent from the duo and having Tyson on campus participating in bowl prep for Oklahoma, Saban was drawn to the character of his two new signal callers.
“We were excited about both guys,” Saban said on the coaching staff’s attitude toward Tagovailoa and Tyson. “They are two good quarterbacks in the state. There are other good quarterbacks too, but we were happy with the two we got. They were both very productive and they have a lot of potential.”
Tagovailoa, at 5-foot-11 and 203 pounds, led Thompson High School to the Class 7A State Championship Game this year.
Despite not winning the title, he showcased a strong arm and exceptional athleticism in extending plays.
As the younger brother of Tua Tagovailoa, Taulia may be a better runner than the Heisman Trophy finalist and consensus All-American.
He endured some injuries late in the season, but Saban praised him for his toughness.
“Taulia had a a lot of success,” Saban said. “He had some great games, where he led his team to come from behind. We are excited about him.”
When it comes to Tyson, his style of play is bigger than the family legacy.
The 6-foot-5, 220-pounder had a prolific career at Hewitt-Trussville High School, recording 6,580 passing yards with 69 touchdowns in two seasons. Under head coach Josh Floyd, Tyson flourished in having elite arm strength, accuracy, footwork and vision as a complete player.
Both guys give Alabama five scholarship quarterbacks on its roster; joining Jalen Hurts, Tua Tagovailoa and Mac Jones. Saban typically signs two trigger pullers per class and although he said “we [Alabama] should have at least four quarterbacks on scholarship,” he also mentioned that “five is okay too.”
A rumor that started last week was on Hurts applying and being accepted into graduate school at Alabama, following his graduation. This is good news in him weighing all options; nevertheless, another rumor sparked on him also being accepted in the University of Texas.
With his final move up in the air, do not be surprised if the fifth quarterback becomes Layne Hatcher.
He turned down a partial scholarship to Arkansas State University to enroll at Alabama and Saban sees the Arkansas native as more than a walk-on.
The 6-foot, 196-pounder had a standout career at Pulaski Academy, totaling 15,483 passing yards with 185 touchdowns while earning a 41-1 record as a starter.
Hatcher played on four state championship teams and won Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of Arkansas in 2017, as he turned in 5,779 yards with 51 scores.
He was part of the Tide’s 2018 signing class.

I'm not sure if Layne Hatcher is actually on a football scholarship.

I'll be interested to see if any chatter starts about Jones transferring. Not sure if he'll be able to beat out Tyson and Taulia.

Trio of Alabama commits playing on ESPNU Saturday night
quote:
Alabama fans will have the opportunity to watch one heck of a high school football game on Saturday night as the St. Frances Academy Panthers (9-0) face off with the Lee County Trojans (15-0) in the GEICO State Champions Bowl at 6:30 p.m. CT on ESPNU.
As Crimson Tide fans are well aware, the Panthers roster has a pair of Alabama signees in 4-star inside linebacker Shane Lee and 4-star offensive guard Darrian Dalcourt, as well as a top 2020 commitment in 5-star edge rusher Chris Braswell.
On the way to an undefeated season up to this point on the calendar, St. Frances' starting 11 on defense have allowed zero points all year. Lee has been a major part of that effort, tallying 61 tackles, 4.5 sacks, five forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and three pass breakups in the teams eight victories (one win was decided by forfeit). On the other side of the ball, the Panthers' offense has amassed a 379-18 scoring differential.
St. Frances will need to bring its A-game on Saturday night as it faces what will likely be its toughest test of the season in Lee County. The Trojans of Leesburg, Ga. are coming off an undefeated season as well and a Class 6A state championship.
Lee County may not have the same number of Division I caliber players that St. Frances does, but it features some talented prospects like 3-star cornerback Jammie Robinson, 3-star cornerback Tavian Mayo, 3-star defensive tackle and Minnesota signee DeAngelo Carter, 2021 inside linebacker Baron Hopson and 2021 wide receiver Chauncey Magwood. Like St. Frances, the Trojans' defense has thwarted opponents throughout the season. Lee County's scoring differential is 624-77.
Alabama will welcome both Lee and Dalcourt to campus next month after both signed with Alabama on Wednesday. Lee, the No. 5 inside linebacker and the No. 70 overall player in the country, per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Rankings, fills a major position of need for the Tide at the inside linebacker spot. Dalcourt, the No. 18 guard and the No. 331 overall player in the country, will compete along the interior of the offensive line in his tenure at the Capstone. As for Braswell, the No. 1 weak-side defensive end and the No. 18 overall player in the country, he's the marquee commitment for the Tide's recruiting efforts in the 2020 cycle. The elite edge rusher committed to the Tide following a visit for the Iron Bowl.
Numbers to watch:
8 -- Shane Lee
10 -- Chris Braswell
74 -- Darrian Dalcourt

Every report I’ve seen on Jones is that he’s doing great and happy.
Having said that, if Jalen stays he may leave or he may jump after the spring if he gets passed up by any of the younger guys (which I kind of doubt - just based on the snaps the younger guys will get (assuming Tua and Jones are both healthy).
He’s also probably just a year away from the grad transfer route option if needed.
