The point and the reason "1980" evokes this type of emotion from uga fans is because it was the only team in the modern era that accomplished enough to be selected National Champion.
I'm sure we can find some obscure newspaper or publication that names us a National Champion just like Auburn fans do when they try to claim titles their own school does not recognize.
Dude. Your fans try to claim titles when you finished ranked #3! Years when you were on probation for cheating.
Auburn has 1 National title in the past 60 years, yet y'all want to bring up 1980 as if it doesn't exist anymore.
The title you trumpet around so proudly was acquired with a QB who left his first school before he was expelled for stealing and cheating.
quote:
Since 1980 Auburn is proud of our ability to have seasons worthy of being selected National Champion.
No you weren't. Name them and I will be glad to show you why you were not chosen by a credible publication as National Champions. Then explain why your own school does not recognize those years. You guys are delusional claiming titles that your owns school doesn't recognize. but, hey...you are Auburn and are full of moral victories masqueraded about as reality.
Please explain how you claim a title when you finished ranked #3, or you didn't play in the title game. Auburn fans have reduced themselves down to UCF levels, and you can't even claim superiority to them.

You can go with this if you want but in 10 seconds of looking at that list it is obviously a shitty list. Just a couple of examples for AU, AL, and FL.
And yet your fan base was running around citing this as proof Auburn had more titles than Georgia. Until, that is, it was pointed out to them that it showed Georgia with more.
You guys comb the internet for any obscure publication or article that soothes your feelings and validates you as a top tier program.
I have given you as many examples of how Georgia leads almost every category against Auburn and is tied in National Championships, yet here you are, arguing that official results don't matter as much as an Auburn fans feelings they should have been named Champions. Why? because.

You should listen to your dad, he seems old school and knows his rivalries.
As a Bama fan, the younger generation says the Barn, but that's not so, it's 10rc. We have raised a generation of dumbasses.

I think 6 is probably correct for us.
How many does you school recognize....or do we just take your fans feelings and award you National Championship posthumously. I guess when nobody awards you a national Championship, you just reach out and claim it.

Let's break these down:
1913-The Billingsley Report named Auburn posthumously National Champions while using a new metric...margin of victory. however, using their primary metrics the Billingsley Report named Chicago the National Champions.
By the way, Chicago played a much tougher schedule, and also went undefeated.
1957-Legitimate. Auburn recognizes this one.
1983-Was not named national Champions by the UPI OR the AP Polls.
2004-Did not play in the national Championship game. USC was disqualified from the title for cheating, and Auburn fans want to claim it because they "might" have beaten Oklahoma.
2010-Legitimate. The school recognizes this one.
The "weak" one you mentioned.(1993) You think? You were on probation for cheating. Yeah.

If you do not understand AU was the true champ in 1983, you are too ignorant for my time.

We can claim it if we want because we played a tougher schedule than either USC or OU and ended undefeated.

Yep. Good enough for a legit claim way before the poll era.
As I said, 5 claims that are hard to dispute (expect when dumbasses with an agenda get involved, like yourself apparently).

By the way, I have zero idea if any of UGA's potential claims are legit outside of 1980.
Never cared enough to look into it and still don't.
I've looked into Bama's claims as Bama is our rival. UGA is just well, dog shite so who cares?

As an out of state alum, who did not grow up in GA, it has always been UF and then everyone else. By far, the WLOCP is the most important game of the year to me. I never took Tech seriously, its a lopsided series. After UF, its UT and AU for me.

was this agreed on yet?
1. UF
2. GT

Two polls were used then to recognize the National Champions. Auburn was not named by either of them. Your own school doesn't recognize it, but since YOU do we should all accept it?

We can claim it if we want
And there it is. Your school doesn't claim it, but you can if you want.

Except your school doesn't. You do, so it is now official.

Because you don't have an agenda? legitimate polls don't name you. Your own school doesn't recognize them. but you do...so it is official.
I guess my agenda is the same agenda as your school? because your school and I agree 100%.

Pretty much, but Auburn is all up in here trying to claim we are their biggest rivals.

I would suspect Auburn counts as their 3rd, but not sure it should really be behind Florida. Only thing that makes Florida interesting is the neutral site. Plus their asses are probably still a little chapped from the Spurrier/Zook/Meyer era.

Any game that is referred to as "Clean Old Fashion Hate" puts that rivalry at number 1.

For me Auburn is climbing quickly, but it is still Florida, GT and Auburn.
Florida is still #1 because they have had such a strong run against us until recently. Auburn is such a good , close rivalry they have to be be very, very close to GT. GT has to stay 2nd mainly because they are in state, but if they don't improve they will drop for me.

Doesn't really matter. They are just another team on our schedule. They can put us where they want on their lists.

Kind of what I suspected. Until that run is further in the rear-view-mirror, it'll rank high for you guys.
I think that + the pageantry of a regularly scheduled, coastal neutral site game make it unique.
I suspect the average fan's emotional hatred of the opponent is higher vs Auburn and Tech than vs Florida though.
ETA: It matters not to me where Auburn ranks on their list, I know they are firmly entrenched #2 for Auburn. We don't play our other neighboring states (FL, TN & MS) regularly except for MS and who gives a shite about those teams.

Did not win a national championship in 1983 or 2004
An Auburn fans made up internet poll (Peoples National Championship) back in 2004 doesn't count.
1983 you didn't get the AP or UPI so no national championship.

That might depend on age. Florida ruined most of my football fan childhood, so that is definitely not true for me. I hope they never win another game.

From spending almost all my life in Georgia, I would say:
1. Florida
2. Georgia Tech
3. Auburn
1 not really massively different than the other though
