Clemson 6-5
TCU 1-10
Ole Miss 3-8
Vandy 2-9
Kentucky 3-8
South Carolina 8-4
Florida 8-4
Auburn 5-6
GA Tech 1-9-1
Notre Dame 9-2-1
So understand this for UGA in 1980:
- Their quality opponents in 1980 were two 8-win teams: Florida and SOUTH CAROLINA.
- They played two 1-win teams on their 11-game regular season schedule.
- 8 of the 11 teams they played on their regular season schedule had losing records.
- Their regular season opponent winning percentage that year was 37.8% (their average opponent was a 3 or 4 win team).
- The Sugar Bowl saw fit to have them face a Notre Dame team that already had a loss *and* a tie in the regular season for the "national championship" game.
This is one of the better examples of the silliness of polls, computers or committees and the way people act like one selector is more sacred than another.
In response to another post. Being in position to win a title isn't the same as creating results where someone selects you as champion. Auburn like uga has several years of being in a position to win a title since 1980 plus the years they were actually selected.

The split of the SEC into east and west divisions in 1992 kind of nuked the build up of traditional rivalries of AU-UGA and UA-TN. They just aren’t as important as divisional games anymore. likewise with UGA-GT, GT hasn’t been a football power in 50 years for the most part since leaving the SEC.
No fans under 40 really care about those historical rivalries anymore.

So when shown proof that Georgia has more accomplishments than Auburn, your next move is to attack our opponents in 1980?
Go for it! We don't make the rules. At least it is a title that everybody recognizes and not some thrid world newspaper naming us. I mean, you fans are wanting to claim titles when you didn't play in the title game and finished ranked #3, so I don't think i am going to worry about a title that everybody universally agrees belongs to us.
"Auburn 5-6"

This is the schedule UGA won a national championship with in 1980:
Tennessee 5-6
Texas A&M 4-7
Clemson 6-5
TCU 1-10
Ole Miss 3-8
Vandy 2-9
Kentucky 3-8
South Carolina 8-4
Florida 8-4
Auburn 5-6
GA Tech 1-9-1
Notre Dame 9-2-1
Their schedule, I mean, not the post.

"years they were selected? Auburn? Since 1980? You mean year, don't you? I mean plural? Seriously?
You have one title in the last 60 years. Yet here you all are acting like Auburn is superior. Classic.

Wonder who posted this?

How does this stack up against Bryants best run vs SEC.
I think he won 20 something in a row or so until a loss to MSU if I remember correctly.
This run by saban is more impressive either way though with league strength now and scholly limits
Talk about crawling up somebody's arse.

How so?

They count the same within the conference and division standings.

No sane Georgia fan would say Auburn. The only two acceptable answers are Florida and Georgia Tech.
Florida is the team I like beating the most. Georgia Tech is the team I hate losing to the most.

Not sure of the point. it's not our fault Auburn had a losing record. Or Tennessee, or any of the other teams. We played the games within the framework and everybody but Auburn fans recognize our title for 1980.
Wow. South Carolina had a better team than Auburn. I had no idea.

You would show a picture of the SECCG, the pinnacle of UGA’s football achievement since 1980. Strangely, in 2010 and even in 2013, Auburn fans immediately focused on the NC thereafter and the SECCG quickly became an after thought.
You’re so little bro, little bro.

You guys just keep making all the threads. it's the "little bro" thing to do. no Auburn poster has answered. What is the expiration date on national Championships?
I mean, before 2010 it was 1957, so y'all went 53 years in between championships. Be proud. Be Auburn.

Depends on where you’re located in the state. The closer you are to the douchecanoes in question, the bigger they get for you personally.
