You don't live in Jackson, you live in Madison and commute to Jackson

City is so broke they use old tires to fill the potholes.

A good friend of mine lived there for two years after he finished meteorology school and worked in weather. He immediately relocated to Richmond, VA after his two-year contract expired. Absolutely hated Jackson, and I tend to agree with him based on my visit there.

You can live and have a nice life in the metro, but there is no way in hell I’d live in the city limits of Jackson.

The city is a proper hell-hole. The suburbs seem close and some of them are nice. Amenities are spread out among the 'burbs, though. The natural environs are bleh.

I can echo everyone's sentiment of Jackson being a raging shithole. I don't live in the city but have worked there for the last 16 years. Anywhere immediately outside the city limits is ok.

Not bad if you live in Madison or Ridgeland.

The bridge going from Jackson to Flowood has license plate readers running 24x7 so when a plate number with anything unusual attached to it crosses, the cops can jump on it immediately.

If that tells you anything.

If you're moving there to work, live in either Madison or Rankin county.

I was talking about Lakeland Dr/Hwy 25. Don't know about the spillway.

Oh I try to avoid Lakeland, at all cost when in Jackson. Also I try to avoid County Line as well.

As for living in Jackson live in Rankin County.

I lived in Brandon up on the Res for about 6 months after getting out of NCAA Football and before I went to work for Stanislaus. I liked the neighborhood but hated Jackson.

As several others have mentioned, I'd recommend Madison or Ridgeland. But there IS an actual nice area within the Jackson city limits if your budget allows it - the Eastover area off of Ridgewood Rd. Nice neighborhood. If you go that route and have kids you'll almost certainly want to send them to one of the private schools. Jackson public schools are... not pleasant.

I used to live in a good neighborhood in the city limits, and used to defend it, but that was over 10 years ago. Even then, all of my neighbors had been broken into, and my neighbor across the street, an 80 year old lady, was beaten with a tire iron early one morning.

It has gone further downhill since then. I was there last weekend and stayed at the Westin downtown. It's new. It sucked terribly. Service was awful in the bar, there was no hot water pressure, and the entire city was under a boil water notice, so no ice, no coffee, etc. Although you could shower, the water smelled like sewage.

When my parents drive through, I don't let them stay in town at a hotel in Jackson and instead get them a room at the Hyatt in Ridgeland.

Filmed? Hell. The movie is about a summer holiday in Jackson. They just changed the name and circumstances in the movie.

They filmed it in Mogadishu. It was safer at night.
