The Mayor is named "Chokwa."

His top aide lives in Madison County.

Does that give you a clue.

Not only is living in Jackson a bad idea, staying overnight in a hotel in Jackson is a bad idea. Here's an example from 2013:

He was staying in a hotel on I-55 north

Girl killed in car at traffic light for the fun of it

“"We receive shots fired calls throughout the city all the time. A lot of those calls end up with nobody being injured. Just maybe someone with some type of malicious intent," said Sergeant Holmes.

Helen Foxworth is on that Neighborhood Association, and says she heard gunshots Friday evening around 5:00 p.m., which she believes might be associated with this murder.

"And then, right after that, probably within two or three minutes I heard gunshots sounding like it was coming from Wooddale and Lakewood," said Foxworth.

Foxworth says she used to call to warn police of possible crimes all the time. She called so frequently, though, that she says JPD stopped taking her seriously.

"They sometimes think I'm a nuisance, because I called too much," explained Foxworth.

Because of that, she chose not to report the gunshots she heard last night””

The pothole large enough to be a hot tub

“”While neighbors saw this 8-foot deep pothole as a nuisance, Daniel Trussel saw it as an opportunity to get peoples attention.

I've spent a substantial portion of my work life in Jackson and it has been like watching someone die of cancer. The water issue is not surprising.

Stolen from another site: Jackson, looks like Detroit, tastes like Flint.

Jackson is pretty terrible, but if you like hibachi there are more hibachi spots per capita in Jackson than anywhere I have ever been. There are also some good steakhouses in Jackson

Most posters here won't get this reference. Pre-dates microwave ovens and VCRs, and some won't know what a VCR was.

Like everyone else said- madison, ridgeland, gluckstadt, parts of brandon and flowood are all perfectly nice places to live. Jackson itself is mostly a hell hole save for a few diamonds in the rough. The fondren area is good fun. Good shopping in ridgeland, flowood, and pearl.

Working in Jackson is fine. Live in Madison, Clinton, Brandon, Pearl, Ridgeland, Richland, Gluckstadt, Reservoir and commute.

It is laid back and not nearly as much to do as New York City, London or Paris,

Not as many rodeos as Ft. Worth. Not nearly the level of voodoo worship you find in New Orleans.

Seriously, He seems to be a stand up guy to me. No excuses, trying to get the city going again. Tough job. I wish him success. Jackson is no worse than many many other big old cities. Tons of infrastructure problems from years of paying no attention to water/sewer systems. Son lives in Pittsburgh, PA and bridges are rusting away there. Many should be condemned - with no hope of replacing them.

Jackson is worse than many other big old cities and cannot be compared to Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh now has a diverse economy (financial, healthcare, technology, industrial) and is home to some good universities (Carnegie Mellon, Pitt, Duquesne, etc). Its population has actually stabilized in recent years.
Meanwhile, Jackson continues to hemorrhage all the things that count.

Jackson is awful.

I live in Madison and work in Ridgeland. So, thankfully don’t have to go into Jackson very often.

Walkers drive thru tho
