Werner took a job making probably a 1/3 to 1/2 of what Dooley is being paid as OC here.
Then it’s not about salary either.

It's about not being offered the job

thats why you always get a pre-nup

100% correct

Do we even know what happened to Fisch?
Was he offered? Did he refuse? Who else was offered?
Also curious how far down his list BO had to go before he heard a yes, from an unemployed Dooley?

Top choice, baw. No one else was officially offered the job.

The only positive I can think of is Odom is looking for a coach that will stay long term and not just see the job as a stepping stone.
Dooley is done as a head coach at a major university. He has coaching experience with WR and TE at the college level and the NFL.
Take a few WR drops away in the season and it may have turned loses into wins.
With Lock as QB and a good RB game Receivers getting better would be a huge help.
His play calling is the biggest question, but I think he will stay longer than 2 years and not leave the team in a terrible position in a Bowl game.

Dooley can recruit, and knows his way about the TN, LA, and FL recruiting landscape. He was a wide receiver in college..., how many former wide receivers do not like a throw it around and deep offense; as long as you have the QB and wideouts for it. He has HC experience at 2 colleges. He is an attorney (his wife is a Dr.); he obviously has the smarts. I am liking this hire.

Re #Mizzou’s hire of Derek Dooley as OC & QB coach: I’m told a few candidates who had interviewed for that job & have much more experience in those roles than Dooley, had turned it down due to the terms of the proposed deals.
This makes it worse.
It might make it worse if it were true.
It's complete nonsense though. We were willing to pay almost 1M per year, have a loaded offense coming back, and our last OC just got probably the best G5 job in the country after two years.
But Feldman is right, no one was interested.
LOL. Makes a lot of sense.

That’s not what he said. It’s almost the opposite.
Posted on 1/8/18 at 7:06 pm to the808bass
He said they were offered and declined.
How does that not equate to not interested?

Clay Travis...Start at the 15 minute mark. I'm really hoping that Odom outsmarted everyone with this hire. Comparing this hire to the Saban - Kiffin hire is interesting.

I think you just live in a different world. People who aren’t interested don’t interview and don’t get offers.

Good OC’s are looking for HC jobs. If they are successful at their current OC job it is in their best interest to stay and wait until a good HC job opens up.
It is hard for a DC minded coach to find a good OC to stay with a program very long. A OC similar to Dooley is the best chance for the tigers to keep a OC very long.

You’re probably talking a difference of two to three years. If Dooley does a great job here, he could get a G5 head coaching job again. Probably as easily as Heupel did. So we have him for 3-4 years versus the 1-2 of Fisch. I would contend that Odom doesn’t necessarily have 3-4 years. He should be hiring for the short term. Just my opinion.

Dooley will probably be solid as an OC. He has a good reputation as a good offensive mind.
He will also be 1 of the best recruiters on staff immediately.
Coaching and developing QB’s is a bigger concern for me.

I hope we go to a pro style offense with a SEC caliber defense.
Look at the two teams in the Championship game, I don't think it's a coincidence.

Scheme is a part of it, but those teams also have an abundance of talent that makes their systems work.

We’re not Georgia or Bama. Our best years are like their mediocre years. I don’t think we can mimic their success. We have to go a little different route.

Yeah, Bielema was going to bring Wisconsin's run it down your throat offense to the SEC. How did that work out?
