I need to let it all out

I'm pretty excited for the future of this program and I think we still have some good pieces so far in our recruiting class. But damn this could possibly be the most disappointing signing day for Mizzou that I could possibly imagine. I get that stars aren't everything, but I don't know how we're getting out-recruited by Vandy and Rutgers.
I think it's pathetic that we're sitting around getting excited about guys who are low 3* and 2* guys while the likes of Trout, Perkins, and Goodrich are looking down at us as they sign to USC/Oklahoma, etc. Remember when we were in play to sign some of these guys? I did not expect us to sign all of them by any means, but maybe sign at least one guy in the top 5 of the Missouri 10 (or whatever they're called). This is a once in a lifetime chance for Mizzou to have a realistic shot at getting some 4/5* recruits that are in-state and we're blowing it.
I understand that after the way we started the season it was understandable for Trout/Perkins/etc to stop considering us. But damn I am still frustrated about this. If this program is ever going to get to where most reasonable fans think it could get (guaranteed bowl team most years), then can we really get by on being 3* U? I only have faith in BO because he has already found some diamonds in the rough (Crockett, Mason, Garrett, Rountree) but how long does it have to go on like this?
I'm just wondering if anyone else feels this as well

This class is basically where Mizzou has always been. Mizzou is almost always somewhere between 30-50. That’s where we are at.

We are never going to recruit like the SEC heavyweights on a consistent basis. We don't have the fan support, prestige, location, facilities, or staff to do so. It is what is, we just have to get excited during those occasional years when the pieces all come together and we have a real shot at finishing at the top of the conference.
These are exactly the reasons that we should really put more emphasis on basketball than we have in recent years. I think we could truly be a hoops heavyweight if we stopped shooting ourselves in the foot every 5-10 years in the post-Norm era.

Nothing wrong with your sentiment. It’s very reasonable. If you look back at the threads surrounding the recruitment of the Missouri 10, the amazing possibilities were being lauded. But the team, for a multitude of reasons, shite the bed out of the gate this year.
Next year.
Next year.

I think your sentiment is dead on. We should be recruiting with Kentucky, Arkansas, USCe. Recruiting is selling and Mizzou does not possess that dynamic. GPs staff wasn't and neither is BO's. Even the fans have the attitude of "this is where we have been and this is where we will stay." There is no real emotion about being better, we count victory in not regressing.
As luck would have it, the line between top recruits and 3 stars is getting narrower. 7 on 7, weight rooms and specialty offenses are really helping all kids advance. We see that in Perkins and Daniels. For my money, I like Daniels even though Rivals tells me Perkins is better. Was Rountree really a 2 star? I don't think so. So the tepid Mizzou attitude won't hurt the team.

this class will finish right around 30. That's not a nightmare, especially considering we haven't won anything...

I don’t have stats on this, but it seems like we put players in the NFL at a higher rate than our recruiting rankings would suggest.
Some of our lowest star rated recruits turn out to be our better players. Recruit for the system.
Sure I’d love all the top guys in the state, but look at guys like Larry Rountree and Damarea Crockett. 3 Star guys producing.

Another reason why Odom will be fired in the next year or two.

But we're getting 2*'s!!
I think stars only matter when Mizzou fans want them to matter.
List all of the 4 and 5 star kids that have come to Mizzou and tell me they are not almost always more skilled than 2* guys.
Richardson
TBJ
Maclin
Gabbert
Lock
Just to name 5 off the top of my head.
Stars do matter.
Now you take a 2* and put him in a system for 4 years there's a good chance he becomes a pretty good football player.
But dont sit there and tell me "stars" don't matter. If Mizzou could recruit in the top 20 they would be a top 20 team yearly.
Odom's entering year 3, I better start seeing some Juniors stand out because so far I'm pretty underwhelmed with his back 7 recruiting.

Babb(if he stays on the field), Perkins and Trout will be the biggest misses in the class. I don't know if they ever had a real shot at Babb, but the dismal start to the season cost them two Dlinemen with a ton of potential.
Brown hanging onto Nebraska is still puzzling considering what MU showed offensively after Mason got the boot. Goodrich now has LSU as his leader and he would be jumping in a class that has 2 4* WRs already committed and 3 WRs from the 2017 class.
Thompson, Knox, Scott, and Gray all play in a far deeper pool of talent than what exists in Missouri so I am not sure that you can say the staff is completely whiffing at WR.
The 2* TB from Pineview was the offensive center piece of one of the best teams in Texas. Guys on another board that live near Pflugerville think that MU got a steal.
The question was posed what would have happened if this class was in 2010 instead of 2017. I think the would have landed a majority of the players because they would have been sophomores during the 2007 season. That sophomore year is when the recruiting relationship takes off, especially with elite players that are starting to separate themselves from their class and assume starting roles on their varsity teams. These guys were sophomores during the 2015 season.

Here’s my extended rant if y’all wanna hear it:
It just feels like we haven’t made any effort to recruit any 4 star guys since we had the Missouri 10 visit earlier this year (remember that lol).
We’re sitting out here basically BEGGING for a mid-level 3 star TE in Messiah Swinson. He’ll probably be a fine collegiate athlete and will be successful wherever he goes, but he’s a program guy and not a program changer. Do you think any other team in the SEC is begging for mid-level 3 stars that aren’t even in-state? Not to mention he plays a position we’re incredibly deep at.
Meanwhile I look on my twitter feed and see four star after four star either decommit or leave us out of their “top ___”. Then I have to watch the pathetic press box super friends try to find the silver lining, then try to get us excited that we flipped a fricking 2* RB from Tulane.
And I don’t mind the fact that our staff has their own system of evaluation and stuff but can we stop being so lame about it? I distinctly remember listening to a podcast from Rock M Nation (forgot what it was called) and they were interviewing one of the press box super friends around NSD. They were saying that the staff basically lost their shite when Kobie Whiteside committed to us. They said the staff had him rated as the #2 player in the country. HE WAS A FRICKING 2* WITH NO OTHER POWER 5 OFFERS! Meanwhile we just sit back and watch about every instate recruit just stiff arm us and head off to Oklahoma/Illinois/K-State or whatever. He did play more than other 2* true freshmen across the country, but he’s not going to be the type of guy that gets us to a 10 win season.
I’m so tired of this shite. I feel like there has simply not been any sense of urgency to get our program back to what it was in pre-2015. Where are all the guys who care about this team? Half of our fan base has simply quit caring since the protests (which is no longer a viable excuse). We don’t attend games, we don’t watch our games on TV, we don’t demand a better product. It’s laughable that a state with one FBS program, let alone it being in the SEC, gets a once in a lifetime class full of guys who grew up as fans of that team and we don’t even know what to do with them. How many of those kids didn’t even include us in their top five? Are we just supposed to accept it and watch our team wither away into the cellar of the SEC?
I’m one of the unlucky bastards who’s freshman year was marked by the protests and I’ll be damned if this team is settling for this level of shittyness when I graduate!
