Would Saban To Cleveland Ever Happen?

Most of it was just hear say over the years and just blown off as a silly rumor. Saban didn't really have success in the NFL before, but he wasn't coaching a 13-0 team either so expectations were probably different then. I know it sounds as far fetched as Aliens visiting our planet, but lol you have got to think, what would he have to lose? Coaching a Browns team that probably averages just one or two wins a year and turning around one of the worse NFL teams in history does sound interesting. Any thoughts?

Mods, please ban this LSU alter.

Saban knows he will never make it in the NFL without a huge talent gap over his opponents.

If Cleveland gets a decent bowl game, sure.
Otherwise, why? The Browns job will never approach the attractiveness of the Miami job he got in 2005, and he ran away from that.

Cleveland wouldn’t want him. He’s perfect where he is.

Then he’d have to deal with the salary cap.

More or less this is it.
I have heard him state in interviews, where he didn't like the model of being penalized for being good. (Lower draft picks because you win).
Bean Counters (GM's that control the money) have more of a say about what your team will be made up of, as opposed to you and your coaching staff. He gave the example of being at Miami and needing a QB. He wanted Drew Brees, however the money men said they couldn't afford him and they "settled" on Dante Culpepper. (at the end of his career). Saban likes to be in control and have the final say of how "his" team is ran. You don't get that in the NFL.

Saban is going to retire from Bama. He is never going to coach anywhere else.

Don't think so. He is a control freak and that won't happen in the NFL. Also, there is more parity in the NFL so he wouldn't be able to dominate like he does at Bama. Saban has a little man complex and will quit as soon as he isn't always on top.

Cleveland is owned by the Haslam. Did you see the UT coaching search?

Isn't part of his job as a college coach getting better players than everyone else?

quote:It's also his job to coach players up and no just ride a wave of 5*s. Saban has always been only as good of a coach as his talent was compared to his competition. When he has more talent against average coaches he win. When he has equal talent or good coaches with talent alittle below him, he loses more than he wins. Its why coaches like tuberville and Freeze beat him with less talent.

he will probably do what Coach K, dean smith, john wooden, bear bryant, adolph rupp, rod dedeaux, cliff gustafson, etc have chosen to do ...

And this is a bs narrative, he develops players better than anyone. Alot of schools get 5 stars but waste them or can't coach them up. 75 percent of the 2009 Bama title team wasn't even his players. Hes turned 3 stars and walk ons into all conference and all American selections, and his blue chip guys rarely fail to live up to the hype. Many schools get blue chip talent and can't even win national titles so saban's track record stands up better than anyone.

He's a huge fan of the Eagles. Do they have a special area in the Rock and Roll HoF?

The NFL has a salary cap, so he would be at a disadvantage there.

Tuberville never beat Saban with less talent.
Tuberville beat Saban in 2007 - which was the least talented Bama team of the last 45 years.
