Great assistants and a great QB masked their coaching deficiencies and once what was gone that made them great, their coaching flat lined.

Nah, Jimbo is a better coach. I don't know what happened to Tommy Bowden, but somewhere along the way, he became too conventional a coach. Also, like his brother, he just couldn't recruit like his dad. One of the reasons I think the Bowden boys thrive in lower jobs and not Power jobs is that they don't need to recruit at a North Alabama or a Tulane like you do at Auburn or Clemson.

Agree 100%. He wouldn't have a natty if AU didn't pull two miracle plays to beat UGA and Bama. In todays format they would've lost. And their were probably 4-5 teams better than Auburn and FSU that year imo.

60-38, zero conference titles, 3-4 in bowls, with a win in the Humanitarian bowl and a win in the Peach Bowl

Jimbo's 8 years at FSU:

12-2
14-0

10-3
5-6 (so far)

83-23, 3 ACC championships, 4-2 in bowls with a natty and two Orange Bowl wins.
