We are saving $2.1 MM per season and I bet Moorhead can go 8-4 and lose to Alabama just like Mullen.

Hell, I could do that

Supposedly, the pool for assistants is much larger than would be if he had a larger salary

Should add a $100k bonus for every point over 40 he can put up against FU this year.

shite, Mullen was getting a raise to 5.5 and Grantham was already getting paid 1.3.

I love this man. Moorhead reportedly took less salary to get more money for assistants. Given that we are saving damn near 3 mil on his contract alone he should be able to hire whoever the hell he wants.

Offered more money but refused so he could get his staff together.

Depending on how you look at it, we are saving more than that. We would have had to bump it to at least $6 million this year to get him to even consider staying. So really we will be saving $3 million + a year starting next year.

Is that the lowest yearly contract in the SEC?

Their approach is, "if pay the coach Saban money, they might be willing to accept"

MSU should be nervous, MSU is a very niche program and Mullen was the perfect fit for that niche. Just like Mullen may not succeed away from State, State may have trouble without Mullen.

Given their location, recruiting and who else is in their division there might not be a tougher Power-5 job in terms of competing for division/conference titles. Maybe the likes of Northwestern or Rutgers or BC, but they don't have the totality of programs to compete with annually in their own division that MSU does.

Pending Arkansas, A&M and Tennessee, yes.

Mullen's first salary was $1.2 MM and he had won a national title as OC. The game has changed. And Ole Miss is paying Matt Luke north of $3 MM.
