Could a loss actually light a fire under our arse?

In prior years it seems the teams played with noticeably more determination and intensity following a loss the rest of the year.
Assume the cards fall our way and we make the playoffs as the #4 seed...
For a month straight all the media talking heads and Alabama haters are going to do is complain non-stop that Alabama didn't deserve to make the playoffs, isn't that good, will get blown out by Oklahoma/Clemson/whoever, etc.
Maybe I'm kidding myself but that sounds like the exact type of thing that could actually wake this team from its apparent stupor.

For 2 weeks they said that about Auburn. And then it basically happened.
I honestly just dont think we have the right pieces this year. The last game was a dumpster fire but we haven't looked smooth on offense against a good defense all season. I doubt that would magically happen against Clemson or Oklahoma.

If they didn't get a fire lit under them after the LSU and Mississippi State game, then it's not happening after the last game.

No, at this point you can’t just turn it on as a team. We don’t have it this year for whatever reason.

Our defense is probably the best in the country but they aren’t dominant enough to make up for the deficiency at the quarterback position. That’s the reason.

I didn't see a dominating defense on 3rd down.

I didn’t call them dominant. I said they’re the best in the country.

Maybe we go out and clown whatever team we see in whatever bowl we wind up in but this isn't a national championship team.

I don't believe it will. There seems to be a chemistry issue with the players and something is wrong with coaching.

If we don't make the playoff, we'll sleepwalk through a bowl and get embarrassed again.

It definitely could. Almost all of of the top 6 teams have had at least one game where you were probably saying "well, that's def not a national championship team" afterwards. We obviously have some soul searching to do, but to say this team can't do it while giving every team in front of us gets a free pass for laying a big stinker(or two) this year, against a worse teams than Auburn at home, is not very fair IMO.

Well said

I hate to beat a dead horse, but I only see this happening if there is a change at QB

I’m worried putting Tua in could kill his confidence going into next season if things went to shite. Maybe it’s worth the risk, though.

I think it’s worth a shot, at least for a few series early in the game. Maybe start Hurts and put Tua in the third or fourth series of the game.

If we don't make the playoffs, then I hope Bama gets Tua more work during bowl prep. He deserves a a lil extra playing time in the bowl game regardless of the game situation.
I don't really believe Tua would have made a difference against Auburn. The whole team sucked including the coaches. We were so unprepared and didn't make any adjustments. I know we have the players to win it all. I just lost faith in a lot of position coaches as the season went by.

I am really at a loss on what would motivate this team. If hearing about how much Auburn is than them for 2 weeks, I don’t know if anything will.

I think it would have for the simple reason that they game planned for Hurts. Tua adds a new dimension to the offense. Football is a game of momentum. We are able to convert
third down before the 4th quarter because Tua sees the WRs running, then maybe our defense isn’t quite as worn.
