No, I was at the game tonight and was very happy he got the win (funniest I've personally had at an Ole Miss game in what feels like a long time) but still his playcalling is still absolutely atrocious at times and plus in all honesty we should have beat State by more than we did.

We should have beaten them worse, no doubt. The play that ultimately allowed things to be so close came when Ta'amu lobbed the interception when scrambling left. If we just run that play or at the very least if he throws it away, we punt the ball and State has to go the length of the field. That would have burned tons of clock and it wouldn't have been nearly so tight at the end.

Only way I would even remotely consider keeping Luke was if he fired both OC and DC and went the freeze route of hiring old vet coordinators who have seen it all and know what to do in the big time situations. I have no doubt Luke can effectively recruit and motivate players, but there’s so much more to being a HC that is best learned through experience. I do think once Luke gets experience at a smaller school he’s going to be awesome. He just needs to find his coordinators and not be stuck with someone else’s.

which makes me wonder why all the Longo hate.

I’m still lost with all the people defending Longo. Lots of people on Twitter are pointing to stats too like AJ breaking records and Wilkins going over 1000; only stats I care about are scoring points when you need to and getting 1st downs when you need them and we suck at both.

We’re 92nd in 3rd down %. We scored 7 points or less in the second half like 4 or 5 times this season alone. Even the announcers said we are dead last in the FBS in giving up leads.

Longo has 2 plays. Go route and dives up the middle. We have the biggest WRs in America but he won’t run a screen. We have really athletic QBs and a beat up offensive line and he refuses to roll the QB out.

The stats are cool but when our all world WRs leave that freeze recruited, the go routes no longer result in big plays. Without all those 70+ yard TDs Longoball is terrible. We would be 0-12 without AJ brown and DK with this offense.

Agreed. South Alabama would be a great fit for him right now.

We had 11 first downs.

2-12 on 3rd down

13 penalties for 121 yards.

And don't get me started on the penalties in the Aggy game.

We have got to be leading the SEC on worst 3rd down % and penalties.

Say what? Luke is not a great recruiter. Those oline recruits were always from Freeze or Kiffin or some other coach. Luke just made them mediocre fat asses once he got to coach them up. His motivation is putting video games in the locker room and being a players coach. Whatever he does in the locker room at half time is piss poor. He is easily the worst coach in the SEC. I would take the Vandy guy over him.

Luke should go to South Bama and we should offer Leach whatever he wants to come here

He is terrible. He is beyond terrible. And McGriff sucks, too. These have to be the two worst coordinator hires in Ole Miss history.

frick a screen. We run them, and always lose yards because our blocking sucks. I'll be happy when any and all screen plays are removed from the Ole Miss playbook for the time being.

I give McGriff a pass. The defense is void of talent. He still got production out of a undersized walk on in Polk. The defense got better as the year went on. Given time to recruit his own players he'd be fine IMO.

He can't seem to coach the D to tackle, get off a block, or be in position to make a play. We did not need to be McGriff's experiment at D Coordinator. I am also tired of our gimmick punter. Fire everyone.

Real talk, unless y'all completely skate on the sanctions, Luke would be a steal at the price y'all could get him at. Reeling in talent is gonna be tough, and the best way to get kids punching above their weight class is to get them emotionally invested. And there's no denying that OM wanted it more than us last night, especially after Fitz went down.

Plus, if the extra bowl bans come down, Luke might could keep most everyone in Oxford cause the players adore the guy.

We could pay Luke $500,000 and he would stay.

Agree 100%. A lot of people on here are going to be upset when Luke gets a 1 year deal.

We will sell 10,000 season tickets if Luke is hired.

Go back to Bjorks interview on Head to Head. He ducked the question as to whether he would hire Luke at the end of season.

Bjork wants to pay a coach $5 million to take over (Taggert), of $4 million (Norvell or Strong).

Matt Luke probably should’ve won 9 games this year (Cal, Arkansas, aTm), and winning 9 probably would’ve gotten him the job no questions asked, which is terrifying. He basically singlehandedly lost those three games though, and we got straight up rocked in our other losses. If we get obliterated by the NCAA, maybe it would be a decent move, but if we’re in any sort of win-now mindset while we still have stupid talent on offense, we’ve gotta get someone who can actually get the team to play clutch football
