Is it strange for the Bama fans to be this excited about basketball?

Not really when, much like baseball, it has the 2nd most all-time wins in the SEC.

Not really. Put a product that is halfway decent on the floor and we fill the gym and get excited bout basketball. Filled it up during the Wimp era, the Gottfried era and most of the Grant era. It's pretty consistent throughout the years.

Some loud people seem to find pride in letting everyone know they don't care about other sports, but the majority of the non-Wal Mart fanbase cares about basketball and baseball (and basically anything else that exists with athletes wearing Crimson).

All of a sudden, they care now.

There's always been some excitement throughout the years. Unfortunately, disappointment and reality usually follows.

By the end of this season, we will be the 2nd winningest basketball program in the SEC.

We will also still be the only SEC program ranked in the Top 3 in the conference in all time wins in all 3 major sports.

I love this narrative. Bama has some of the best attendance numbers in the conference despite having the worst arena, a smaller city than most SEC teams, and a fairly meh product as of late

I bet not many SEC basketball fan bases could fill up off campus arenas the same way Bama sold out games in Huntsville and Birmingham

Not for us that were around for Wimp and going to games at The Plaid Palace. Gottfried had us excited for awhile, hell we were #1 for a week. David Hobbs was between those eras and he was awful, I went to high school with his son and would tell him everyday I hoped his dad gets fired.

No. Anyone who knows about basketball and isn't just trying to troll knows there are a lot of Bama fans who love basketball. We're historically one of the better teams in the SEC and have fans to match. The second half of Gottfried's tenure and most of Grant's put a damper on some of the excitement, but put a decent product on the floor and you'll see the support. There's a 200+ page thread on the Bama board now about offseason basketball and recruiting.
